Does anyone have a nut and bolt list for a '81 Jota?

Hi there,

Looking for a list of all the nuts, bolts and washers. Is there anywhere I can get this? I see Ralph sells a parts book but does anyone know if it gives the size of each bolt. I'm particularly interested in the thickness of washers used because I think Laverda used thicker than normal in a lot of instances.

Many thanks

Nick :-)

Nick, they are known as Sampson washers or you can also ask your bolt supplier for hardened washers, same thing. Being a bit of a rivet counter myself here little details are important 😂😂😂

So 'hardened' washers are zinc plated? I do like a bit of beef on my washer - the flimsy ones end up deformed and they cause the soft Laverda alloy to deform with it.

Hardened plain washers are used only under the M8 and M9 cylinder head nuts of the triples. Lots of reinforced/thicker than normal washers to be found too. Good idea to use reinforced washers with the case nuts. I've gone over to using grade 8 flanged nuts for the cases, saves loads of fiddling during assembly and are a lot stronger. More thread depth than normal nuts and no washer to deform. Not for the rivet counters though...

Fastener sizes were stated in the earlier parts books.

I like the look and thinking there, Piet. I do worry when I see metal deformation from bolts and nuts in Lav cases and heads. Ever one for an upgrade I reckon I'll ask my guys at Melatfasteners about them. Do they all come with that extra thread depth? Is there a particular type I need to ask for? Like DIN-something?

I can't find anything online that looks like those nuts Piet. Searched for M8 non-serrated flanged., grade 8, tried everything and can only find the std shorter nuts and about 95% of flanged nuts are the serrated type.

DIN6331 Quentin.

Hex is 1.5 x d, + the thickness of the flange, non-serrated. Available in plain black or zinc-plated 10-grade (sorry, my mistake), or 2 different grades of stainless. I also use them in M6 for the small case studs, as well as all over the chassis.

I could send you a handfull... ;)

The usual pounding with a soft-faced hammer to get my head off, that deformation is such a pain to overcome. Hopefully never to happen again with the large hardened washers now fitted to my bike.

Nick: The most comprehensive parts list I've seen is for the 1200, which you can find here:
It shows almost all the bolt sizes. Many/most will be common with the 81 Jota, noting that the 1200 had several bolts in chrome plate ('cromata' in the parts book) which were normal bright zinc for the 1000's.
Also see the 120 Jota parts book here:
which will have the fairing components etc.
