Domino Daytona hand grips and more

Hi all

I have worn out/torn hand grips on a few on my bikes and went shopping locally without finding much selection of motorcycle bar hand grips. Then I got thinking it would be good to track down the Italian Daytona grips.

Found the USA importer/distributor. Even really decent pricing compared to Amazon and eBay. Long story short, "while I was at it" I ordered a total of 9 sets of grips in a variety of styles/colours.

No association or affiliation with the supplier, just a good product at a decent price and quick shipping.

the bar end is not part of the grip, I had to cut that bit off, the bar ends are one off's, haven't ridden far enough with them yet to fully decide if they work for me or not, Thanks again Hamish for the gift, I cant think why you didn't fit them oh yeah, not stock/BSOB

It was more to do with them being open-ended (ie. designed for bar-ends) which I don't have fitted, Clem.

They look good. I prefer softish thin grips most modern bikes use now. I'm using the ones that came on the R1 clipons I bought. Can't even comprehend how anyone could ride with those old Brit bike plastic things that looked like a punching speed ball mounted on a handlebar!!

Are you referring to the old "Beston" grips Quentin? (picture below)

They're classic fitment to old pommy bikes, especially the singles that tend to vibrate a lot. The padding is supposed to offer a bit of vibration isolation.

I used to use those grips back in the day. They were OK but could get a bit slippery when wet.

I recall once when I wore a set of industrial PVC chemical resistant gloves (the big old red PVC coated canvas type) for water resistance, over a set of knitted woolen gloves for warmth. My thinking was that the glove combo would be good for cold, wet weather. It worked in as much as the glove system kept my hands warm and dry, but the vinyl outer gloves were so slippery on the plastic hand grips that I couldn't twist the throttle open. It was like trying to grip a bar of wet soap.

Yep!! That's them, Cam! Maybe my hands are small, but any FAT grip like that just cause aches. Vibration resistance ... maybe for those who have their hand on 'it' anyway!!

what about those plastic (nor rubber) multi leaved ones that look like a sweet corn cob, or a mini pump impellor, that was popular with the greasers (me included) in the 60's

Found these on Amazon. They kinda look like the old "Granturismo" football grips that were fitted on everything brit/euro back in the 70s/80s with the exception of our Laverda and big Ducatis. The new grips are a firm rubber without the soft air pockets of the Granturismo.

Now that my hands are ancient these grips are comfortable enough on longer rides.  About $12 delivered in the USA from Jeff Bezos.

Paul in these odd times - are you panic buying  :D

have to make it worthwhile when buying from the U.S., customs clearances, and shipping costs add up quickly if you buy just one or two items, to me it makes sense to buy multiples, all the grips will find good homes on my various bikes.

here in western Canada, and likely elsewhere in the world, seems since CoVid lockdowns people are offering for sale more things than usual otherwise not readily available locally, but at highly inflated prices. These Domino Daytona and Domino XM grips are being listed for sale local to me for $60 Canadian a pair :o  I could sell two of my nine pairs locally and wind up with seven free to me pairs if I were so inclined ::)

also, for Laverda windscreens, the clear screen on my RGS fairing was very recently damaged and needs replacing.

Gustafsson's Plastics has been around since 1968 . Don't know how they are making out through the pandemic, but they have been advertising heavily recently, offering 20% off orders, and for those in the U.S, free shipping.

I just ordered from them a "light grey smoke" replacement windshield for my RGS. I have been ordering stuff from them for many years, have always been pleased with their products.

again, no affiliation, just been happy in my dealing with them over the years.

Sounds reasonable Q. I suppose it makes sense that hand size would be be a factor. I find the grips with a slight bulge in the middle a little more comfortable than the plain thin type, so those old Beston grips seem to fit my gorilla-sized hands OK. I actually have a set of them on my Jota (couldn't remember, so I had go and look!). Those "football" grips that Mr R Spokes posted a picture of look like they'd be OK for me too. Might see if I can find some in Australia.

When I bought my Kawasaki 1300, it had massive foam grips about 2" in diameter. I found them be way too thick and got rid of them pretty quickly. I think those foam grips were favoured by the Harley boys. Perhaps they needed them to isolate the Harley Vibes. Why anybody would put them on something as smooth as a 6-cylinder bike is a mystery to me.

They probably enabled individuals without opposing thumbs to ride a motorcycle - perfect for ape hangers!  8)

Hey Rusty, do you have a link to those hand grips? I quite like the look of them but couldn't find them on Amazon.
