The speed of donations last year - for which my sincere thanks - beat some potential donors. I plan to put up the PayPal 'donate' button on Friday 10th March at 0800GMT. It went live at midnight GMT in 2022, so maybe this 8 hour shift will help our friends in the southern hemisphere?

2023 budgeted operating costs are similar to last year at GBP430. This includes domain name & hosting, forum software support plus associated tech support tools and backup storage.

My thanks also to two members who wanted to get ahead of the rush and made their donations by bank transfer at the end of January!

For those who are confused by time zones, here's a conversion to Australian/New Zealand time.

7pm in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania
6pm in Queensland
6:30pm in South Australia
5:30pm in Northern Territory
4pm in Western Australia
8pm in New Zealand

I don't usually look at the forum in the evenings, so I'll set an alarm on my phone for 7pm.

In USA and Canada it's between midnight and 3am depending on which state you're in, so unless you're a night owl, you might miss the opportunity to donate.

For the rest of the world, you're on your own, sorry. There are plenty of time zone conversion websites.

I'm pretty sure Rob will leave the button up long enough that even a member in Bora Bora can donate....

A big 'thank you' for an extremely rapid response to my request for donations to meet LaverdaForum projected operating costs for 2023. In the space of six hours I have received a total of £432.58 after PayPal charges. I have therefore taken down the Donate button and will be emailing individual acknowledgements out over the weekend.

I particularly enjoyed reading the comments made alongside your donations - my favourite is this -
"Thanks for all you work behind the scenes Rob. Great resource for Laverda nutters world wide. all the best, Hooksey

We are fortunate to be able to tap into the extensive knowledge and expertise on LaverdaForum - my sincere thanks go to all of you who contribute and help make it the great resource it is.

I think it's us that owe you thanks Rob. I wouldn't have a clue how much work goes into setting up and maintaining a forum, but I'd guess it all takes a reasonable chunk of your time.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't have minded if you had let the donations flow a bit longer to give yourself something for all the work you do. I suspect many others would also feel that way.

Here's a suggestion:
Next year, why not leave the donation button up for 24 hrs? Then you don't have to worry about people who want to contribute being excluded because of time zones. Everyone will have an equal opportunity to donate. Anything you get in excess of the direct forum running costs would be a well-earned bonus for yourself.
 
Interesting idea Cam - the reason for taking the Donate button down is simply to avoid over collecting. I do carry forward any unused balance to the following year and have never thought about being paid for my time. It doesn't amount to much when things are working as they should!

I'm happy to do what I do in the same way that our expert contributors freely share their Laverda knowledge here.

A few folk in previous years have been emphatic that part of their donation is for a beer and pizza as well as a contribution to the operating costs. I confess to taking them up on their instruction!
