80mph? Bit of a shame really.
It's a consequence of one of the many stupid Laws enacted in the USA .
From September 1979, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) passed a bill which stated that all car, pickup truck and motorcycle speedometers were to display a maximum speed of 85 miles-per-hour. This U.S. federal regulation also required speedometers to have a special emphasis on the number 55 (the national speed limit at the time).
The mandatory 55 mph limit was widely disregarded by motorists, with many states opposing the law. Congress repealed the Act in 1995, returning speed limit settings to individual state governments.

Wozzen mee!!
I had a Japanese import CB750 in for a service once, went out on the test ride and a huge dazzling red light went off in the dash, I whipped in the clutch and stopped. Turns out it was a town speed limit warning light that was required back in Japan.
