DVLA HISTORIC CLASSIFICATION MOTORCYCLES IN THERE 41ST YEAR

Virtually Free motorcycling ,my 1980-(180) Lavera Jota achieved it's 41st year the local post-office scanned my V5 documents "BINGO" DVLA Historic status achieved ,then fill in a simple disclaimer and the DVLA will return a new V5 documents. over 28yrs of ownership now Tax &M.O.T. exempt! at last!!.

I had forgotten that my newly acquired 77 jota would be tax/MOT exempt, came as a pleasant surprise and a bonus when I realised.

But every Year you will get a reminder, you log on to DVLA webpage, tick the zero Fee box and your good until next year!

Any bikes constructed, (not registered) up to the end of 1980 can be re-registered as historic vehicles, it was not possible to do it before April.
So long as they fall in the criteria, haven't been tampered with excessively, retain the original outline and all the main parts are of the original date, more or less.
But I won't tell them if you don't.

thanks for that information. I have a bike that was manufactured in 1980, but is registered on a Y plate (1982) on V5. Do I have to wait until 40 years from date of registration ?

Its 40 years from registration but from 1st Jan so unless you bike was registered first day of Jan it will be 41 years effectively! Don’t get me on the bloody DVLA...

It would be possible to have it classed as a 'Historic Vehicle', if the date of manufacture can be documentarily determined as 1980.
Was it previously unsold stock, in the UK or registered elsewhere and imported?
