As Vince posted, the basis of what we use today, in keeping the Laverda running, traced back to discoveries in a time long ago. The Laverda mob used to descend upon the Bowral home of iis, most welcome one and all, in particular i know our Shih Tzu Bills, thought you Vince a significant notable, nice piccy somewhere of you and Bills, the past can be what we have today.

Tesla has many stories, he was more than aware of publicity as his life progressed. One of the images of him sitting in his Tesla coil reading a book as huge electrical discharges all around. It is a fake for promo purpose, he would be doing a lot more than reading a book if it was real, grin. Of all his inventions, the poly phase electrical reticulation had the most effect on what we have today, brilliance in amongst the ordinary gifted, such as Edison. Tesla actually worked for the Edison company, not for long.

In the Laverda world community there are the notables, in seeking out real answers and new research on these "obsolete" motorcycles, do like reading what Redax is doing, as an indicator, Red measuring positive ( negative ? ) crank cas pressure on a running loaded motor, not just the 180, the 120 also. There is a driven man. As an aside i used a very low pressure regulator from a corporate massive photocopy machine to "pressurize" Laverda static motors, talcum powder around suspect oil seals for less obvious oil leak source. Thinking all the time does not lead to headaches, lots of extra work, yes.....grin.

Turned a nice envious green here, a very nice green all the same... Maxene needs to commence writing a book of your travels and experiences as a couple, including Laverda content, can see Maxene now, studious high fashion glasses and the zeal she has, word processor at 100%...go Maxene...j

Such an interesting bloke, and virtually wiped from the popular conscious by the PR machine of Edison. Even after winning the Power Distribution wars he still lost in the end. Up until the recent films put that right to the current, pun public. It's funny how many important inventions and discoveries over the years either happened simultaneously to different people or were claimed by the wrong people and became household names wrongly.

Yes, I think Tesla was a genius in the same league as Albert Einstein, although they approached science from different philosophies. Einstein was mainly a theoretical physicist whereas Tesla was more of a hands-on man. I don't think there was any animosity between them, but also not a lot of cooperation. Einstein was 23 years younger than Tesla. Perhaps Tesla saw him as a young upstart.

Tesla was also was a contemporary of Thomas Edison, but a much more sophisticated and capable scientist. I think you 're spot on Vince. Edison was a PR man more concerned with building a business empire and blowing his own trumpet than actual scientific advancement, while Tesla was a true scientist. Inevitably it's the PR man who gets remembered.

I suspect Tesla went a bit loopy towards the end of his life, but maybe he was in the early stages of dementia. None of his later ramblings detract from his earlier life's work. Every time you plug in an electric appliance, you're benefiting from Tesla's work. I reckon he'd have been an interesting dude to spend a bit of time with. He had a lot of well educated and high society friends.

Maybe. Free publicity from all the recent Tesla Biopics gets brand recognition. I was going to say Elon might but I think Definitely is cut from the same mould as Tesla. But he also has money-making talent as well. His Mars plans are mind-blowing and the scale of money and engineering involved defy my tiny brain. I started paying attention with that first reentry and touch down on that barge. His new big SpaceCraft is way bigger and more powerful than what he is using now to resupply the Space Station. The pace his facilities and infrastructure are being built is so fast developments have made a couple of these crafts redundant as his lastest engines don't fit the rocket bases and will be scrapped, they're massive BTW. And if the FAA would pull their finger out and issue a licence for his launch site instead of dicking around for the next 3 months it might orbit a bit sooner. I thought I might not live long enough to see another peopled moon landing let alone a Mars shot, I just might now.

Edison would expend weeks on a problem, that Tesla solved with calculations, in a few hours. That aspect aggravated Tesla no end....

Used to have a working business owner ( no TAFE or UNI ) come at me after a liquid lunch .." so your formally trained are you.... i know more than you will ever know..." hardly worth a reply from me, the rejoiner being we both worked all day together in a Belling and Lee full brass Faraday cage, fun at the ranch had new meaning... he was good for fast repairs, no question (*) yet the complicated repairs stopped him dead... i had my use, freezing brass cage or no...
(*) one of his favorite repair techniques was on AWA two way land mobile rigs, ostensibly a floating earth module, due to both polarity cars in the day. Tantalum capacitors were many going from pcb zero volts ( "earth" to the many ), to frame. Tants go short at very low reverse voltage, he would crank up the 12-24V 25 amp bench power supply and blow the snot out of all the tants, filling our sealed room with byproducts of evaporating pure tantalum in sealed cage, a small RAC in the corner, trying to cope... or soldering new components onto the dead tails of faulty components to save removal of pcb... he was not a bad bloke as such, mores the pity his behaviors in certain respects. Think the Laverda owners would call him a DPO we have all seen the end results from dreaded previous owner. j

Personalities, my last long term working associate used to make fun of my leariness around the massive table saw we both used. That stopped one afternoon with a slight shortening of his right index finger. He became slightly less arrogant after that.

Well that has challenged my neurons, but nevertheless I am reading on with great interest and anticipation 🙂

Had a short visit to the Edison Museum a few months back, was pressed for time and some sections closed off (Covid), and no curators around to ask questions of... A few photos:
