Electronic Decompressor / low volume oil pump. Bultaco related

I see Marty's bultaco question. I need some advice for a Sherpa T 350.

I'm in the process of becoming a permanent grey nomad, and the zanes and the 3cl won't fit in the van, so bought a Bully to play with.

Am changing the charging system to a 12v system with an Ignitec reg/rec and a small battery. Looking at fitting an ignitech ignition system, and wondering about the possibility of having an electronic decompressor valve operated by the ignition system.

The next step, if possible, is to have a low volume 2 stroke oil pump controlled by the ignition system with output to the pump linked to rpm. Will save me mixing premix..but I suspect I may not be able to do that without  selecting a unit with an injector output and using the programmable injector output to control the oil pump.

Bultaco have several charging system/ cdi upgrades, but they are are almost as archaic as the bikes themselves.

SO, if you know of a decompressor or an oil pump with a stepper(?) Motor, can you flick me a link.

Thanks! Greg

Err no the only decomp i have seen is a manual one from a victor lawn mower that was adapted to replace the 2nd spark plug in some big bore 2 strokes

Personally I wouldn't do any of those mods.
1 A battery isn't a good idea on a dirt bike.
2 In the mid '70s the Suzuki RL250 was based on the TS250 trail bike but they removed the oil tank and feed and changed to pre-mix for reliability.
3 A two stroke engine has compression on every stroke so there's not much point in a decompressor.
By the way, is there no Bultaco forum? They're bound to know more than us.

I think you may the pioneer with those ideas Greg as generally dirt bikers go the other way - taking features out, making it ever simpler and lighter.

If you fancy an electrical challenge, then a bolt-on 6V (no battery) ignition unit with adjustable timing would be welcomed by the off road world. Fire up the soldering iron chap!

Greg Is a Gold  label pioneer at converting anything simple into a tri polar tetrahedron of complex confusion, but we still love him....

Cosi would appear to be correct. However.....the place I'd ask is on Kiwibiker Forum. Buckets section, ESE Engineering thread on 2 stroke tuning and matters.

It has everyone from ex Aprilia staff to snowmobile and jetski tuners contributing. An enormous range of 2T subjects have been covered - but I've not seen his particular questions asked - yet. There are quite a few contributors who have used Ignitecs for purposes not envisaged by the makers so ask there is my recommendation.

I can pretty well guarantee that he'll be told KISS though - but someone will have usable advice too.

I sold my last sherpa t 350 about 20 years ago, and my back and right leg still hurt from trying to start it. Hence with this one, programmable ignition curve and decompressed on first compression......

There are bultaco forums, but the general engineering and mechanical knowledge bases is not as, uhhm, evident as it is on this forum.
