Engine Management system

Just curious:

Has anyone tried fitting a fuel injection/engine management system to a Breganze Laverda?
The system from a Zane 750 onto a SF comes to mind as a likely match.

Thanks Grant.

I have sent Steve a PM.
I wonder if the considers his Triple conversion worth the effort.

If you do a search on the forum there is a video of it being dyno tested and ridden on the road.

Used to install Haltech FI on Guzzis and BMWs, never tried it on the Laverda. Last time I checked they still do business around the world. An Australian company IIRC.
It worked quite well for for the time (1990) but could be a tedious PITA to map, no closed loop. Newer stuff is better for sure.

Worth the effort?  By any rational persons measure, no.  But riding (and even more so modifying) a Laverda has nothing to do with rationality now does it?

As far as using a Zane system, good luck with that.  It's unsuitable on a number of levels - it's not designed to be reprogrammable, the engine characteristics and even the firing order are completely different, and then there's the fact that they're not even particularly good on the bike they were designed for.

You're far better off starting with a commercial programmable ECU, I used an Autronic but there are plenty of others, and the low-cost Microsquirt might be ok for the job given you need at most 2 channels for a 750.  The level of sophistication of the ECU does effect the end result though, not so much peak hp but the character of the engine.  After a couple of iterations I'm extremely pleased with how the RGA came out, it's ultra-responsive without being snatchy as many EFI bikes are (Zanes for example).

It is a LOT more work (and cost) than fitting FCR's and a digital ignition, but if you're technically adept and persistent it's a fun project with a cool end result.  Around the time I was finishing mine there was a guy in NZ who was embarking on a microsquirt based system for his 750, not sure if he ever got it finished.

Cheers
