Evel Knievel Laverda

A few years back someone was asking about rebuilding one of his actual Laverda, American Eagle actually jump bike, and I think talking about doing more jumps on it. Or am I wrong on the latter bit?

Several years ago I heard about a fellow here in the US that was stunt jumping on 750 Lav / AE. I don't know if he is still doing it or if he is a grease spot on the pavement.

I liked jumping my Dirtbike, nice simple little hops to suit 100mm suspension travel then Supercross was invented and double and triple jumps appeared and suddenly I didn't like jumping anymore.
 
Most Fire Trails, access tracks to fight bushfires, in steep country have things called water bars. There 1mitre high dirt mounds bulldozed across the track every 100ms or so to slow the water runoff in heavy rain. They make great fun jumps, mostly but you need to take care your not landing on washed-away channels, that tends to hurt a lot. So steady pace, stand up lean forward and smoothly accelerate up the mound looking to make sure it's not a big hole on the other side and that mostly gets you landing rear wheel first, mostly.
 
Try racing an Ironhead Sportster across the Mojave Desert or Baja 1000. We used to think guys
racing Honda 250/305 Scramblers had a death wish ! Remember Knievel jumping the fountain
in Los Vegas was on a much lighter Triumph twin and how that turned out... Louis Re in my book
has big cojones.

You do realize Knievel broke about every bone in his body he had left after jumping that Eagle 750 SF once too many times ;o)

There's a video of him HORRIBLY wiping out with that Eagle on the landing ramp - I'll post it if I can find it !

I had the whole flic of the episode were he does a wheelie in 2nd gear before the jump but lost it years ago to Wanna Cry ;o(
