exciting news!

Just back from Breganze (Hi Tom and JohnO). As predicted by Al at an early stage, the engine is a DOHC 75cc single - the factory prototype that was on a display stand in the museum. A lot of work has gone into getting it running and sorting a chassis for it. The chassis appears to be elongated from a normal tiddler frame front end. The frame, tank, guards and fairing look like an old factory photo of Lino Marchi propping up a Prototype racer that is in some of the books. It shares the left hand exhaust too. Shocks look like stripped down 1953 75cc items but i've no idea about the brakes. Superb quality work throughout. I don't know if these are original, restored parts or a brilliant recreation.

I missed the actual unveiling  but took some photos inside the museum. The last photo is the exploded state it appeared in when displayed. I've been shown a video of it running and will try to obtain one.

Sorry if you've all seen these already - I'm still sorting out from the trip and not yet up to speed with the forum etc
I'm hoping some of our more well-versed experts will know more about the history of the engine than I do. Apparently it is owned by the chap who co-wrote the Laverda Passione book.

Just had a quick trawl through my Laverda library. Here's that photo of Lino Marchi with the protototype racer from the 1950s. As you can see, that bike contains an early road bike derived motor, but the rolling chassis is very similar to the one shown this weekend, complete with the fairing Lothar loves :D

corrected...

The engine is an original factory project, which had a short life at the times (was a kind of an experiment).
The engine surfaced in a jumble market many years ago.
The chassis is a recreation, based on pictures of a 75cc track-record-racer of the '50s.

That is a showcase of how good the Italian engineers were, it could have been the base for lots of the later larger models.
