Executive rack mount

The Executive racks I am mounting on my RGA Jota have a broken piece: one of the little L-shaped pieces that connect the rear bar to the lower part of the two racks. The break occurred at the joint where it gets clamped on the rack. It could be welded, but it wouldn't be hard to make a new one. My question is: is this a known weak point, perhaps needing some re-engineering? It's not hard to imagine a circumstance where that rather flimsy little piece of metal was subjected to some abuse, like, if the bike fell over, but if it fails just because of the vibration and normal loading of the panniers I would try to beef both of them up a bit.

If they are as meagre as they appear in the parts book then I reckon knocking up some beefier versions would not hurt.  No doubt the exec riders will chime in.
 
Yes, that's it. It does seem flimsy to me, especially in comparison with the generally beefy construction of the rest of the rack.

somewhere, probably, you will find it written that the max loading for the frame is 5 kilogrammes or some other stupid low figure which absolves all from liability when it fails, it looks too "untriangulated" to me, hey just invented a new word?

Said bracket rarely gives problems, it's #30 that likes to fracture.  It takes the brunt of any load, however large or small.  The bends severely weaken a piece of steel that is normally well up to the job

I've made mine a bit more substantial after having 3 of them break.  I think 5mm thick, instead of the stock 3 or 4mm.  No more troubles.  I do pack the panniers with whatever goes inside, never really spared a thought for potential overloading.  Reckon the space wouldn't allow it anyway in "normal" use.

As Piet says. I would add I replaced all the sleeves and bolts etc  that mount the lower front of the rack to the footrest plate by welding studs to the round bars. You have to it in place because of the angles, ie the studs are not at 90 degrees to the bars.
 
It appears some previous owner of these racks experienced the same issues with #30 that you mentioned, Piet. Those brackets are made of 6mm stock on this set. The other top bracket (#22) is only a bit over 3mm thick. I may beef those up too, while I'm fussing with this.

I replicated #24-26 in stainless, was fed up with the corrosion of the originals.  Was also quicker than having the originals re-plated. :D
