Hi, I have just found that the exhaust camshaft and one valve bucket is damaged on the 500 Alpino I recently purchased,, I wondered why I couldn’t get it to start !!!
putting out feelers for help from any member who might have a good secondhand camshaft or could point me in the right direction to buy new.
I am based in the UK.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hi Exado, The exhaust cam could be corrected by 'Joy Engineering' - https://www.motorcyclewebsite.com/item/joy-engineering-camshaft-specialist/ . You could also contact Andy Jessop - Laverdamann@manx.net he may have a good second one, I'm afraid I don't. Andy Jessop is at Cadwell this weekend, so he may not respond very quickly. I assume when you say valve cap you mean the bucket, try OCT - http://www.octeam.de/ or Wolfgang in Canada - laverda@lightspeed.ca .
The damage whats caused it any idea, lack of oil?

Thank you for the recommendations and I will try to make contact with them. As for the cause of the damage I don’t know as I recently bought the bike which had been standing since 1999 so I guess that is the reason it was taken off the road then.
You are also correct in the name of the part as the bucket, Rob

it is correctly a "tappet" but hey ho who cares, the main thing here is not to just repair and replace, but delve and find waht caused it, or the same is quite likely to happen again soon, I would check the sump strainer for fluff on the gauze as a first step, but you never know the DPO may have cleaned that already.

Hi Rob
I ve had cams repaired by Joy engineering in the past and they have done a very good job, so that would be my first point of call. Otherwise, I should be able to fix you up with what you need.
I’m travelling back to the island tonight so give me a couple of days to get myself sorted.

I've had a look through some of my stash of spares and unfortunately not found, so far, what you're after. Trouble is I'm moving most of my accumulated 'stuff' to a new location but currently it's spread over 3 or 4 different places.
However, I now think the only spare exhaust cam I have is for a Monty and I need that myself. I'll keep looking for a valve bucket.

Joy Engineering reprofiled the 4C exhaust cam on my Jota. An expensive mistake....🤬
Incorrect ramp profiles on and off the cam lobes resulted in knackered buckets, valves etc.
Top marks to Piet and Grant for effecting the necessary repair and replacement, as well as Alan Bell for supplying an original undamaged cam.
So, not a Joyful experience...
