Eyeball these spacers

So the "spacers" on the left cam out of the original forks. The ones on the right came with the new 9.5 springs.

Just want to get a read from those with Ceriani forks, what they use and how much preload they use?

Thats why a stack of washers is helpful, you need what does the job and that can only be found by trial and error.

That plus different spring strengths and lengths. Even stickshone{sp} in the fork seals, or where you sit on the seat.Or even the air gap from where you set the oil height, much better than using oil volume. Even what kind of handlebars are fitted. It's never going to be spot on for rider sag. If the spring rate is correct and the oil level works what you look for is to be using all the travel available espeacaly  when braking hard on bumpy corners and maybe bottoming gently occasionally. If you notice nothing harsh its right, never been that good on mine yet. I have had that happen when you have a pro do your dirtbike, its just amazing the difference when its right. Its easier to do with the large violent movements off road, much harder when the movements are small and subtle on a road bike.
I have no idea what happens with smooth road racing suspension adjustments, other than first principals what happens there is a mystery to me. Maybe they read tyre degradation, or what make better lap times.

Take into consideration fuel load; up to 20 kilos difference between a full and empty tank and most of that weight on the forks. Try setting your sag up with half a tank.

Yeah well, with a 20 + litre tank I reckon it makes a difference, 20 litres = 20 kilos approx.

Try some 32mm HD electrical conduit for spacers. Somewhere between 10 to 20mm maybe? Will depend on the springs...

I generally fit them at 15mm above the top of the fork  :D

I could be interested in a set of those: where d'ya get 'em (or is that a silly question?)?

Whilst we're on the subject: what's the verdict on progressive springs?

Those look great, got to be better than a bunch of washers or poly pipe ;)

The setup of suspension is a dark art.

The issue of fuel is real. We mitigate the impact on the track by setting up the suspension with a known amount of fuel in the tank, and thereafter only filling to that level. (Fuel stick to check for us amateurs). Base setup.

The suspension on a modern race bike also goes off over time and requires maintenance, can't remember the number but is as low as 20hrs. The suspension requirements also greatly affected by weather/track conditions.

Basically that's why they make changing the various element of preload, rebound and compression so easy - because they are constantly on their toes!

Which brings us back to the Jota - setting sag is important but most techniques assumes your forks are in good working order - not binding etc.

I've always been taught that preload was about getting the spring in the right working range for the bike/rider, and without that no amount of rebound or compression will help.

It may seem bleedin obvious but front and back need to work in harmony I.e they should compressed and rebound at the same speed.i reckon that's what people feel when their bike is set up professionally.

Anyway, what do i know ;)

Still I reckon it would be nice not to take the bloody handlebars off to adjust!

very much doubt they will fit with your Jota bars, you only have 2-3mm clearance below the bars and the top of the fork nut
you would have to run Ape Hangers instead

No they won't. I actually have the sportsvalve caps that allow rebound and compression adjustment but they won't fit either. It's ok it's "man's" suspension  :D :D

Washers are on the way....

Apes would be novel thougb :o
