Famous / Celeb Motorcyclists

The best example of that were these ads, zero actual riding by the actress. All on a tower trailer. Some add person at least had good taste.

Neil Pearl, drummer for Rush rode his bike to his appearances whenever possible, sadly he lost his life to cancer. An older but interesting article from the AMA magazine. Neil rode until the brain cancer took away his coordination.

Have seen Dick Emery sat on a CB750 on the cover of Motorcycle Mechanics in 1970 , with his toes barely touching the ground ........ and a pic of him actually riding it within the pages of Motor Cycle .... then there was him and his missus collecting the Commando from the factory .......... the CB750 would sometimes feature in his TV show ........ I also read somewhere that a certain Mr Phil Todd owned an ex- Emery Laverda 1200 .......

Emery`s family reckoned he would buy a new car as soon as the old one`s ashtray filled up .....

I remember Ralph Richardson on a chat show , Parkinson or something , and he was talking about Barry Sheene , and how he found it incredible that Sheene could be doing " great things on a motorcycle , yet be wondering at the same time if he had turned the gas off , or put the bins out " ....... Dunno if Sheene actually told him that , but he did find time to turn around and flick vees at a following Kenny Roberts at the British GP .......

Kenny, having worked it out during practice, used a different line to snatch first place from Sheene on the penultimate corner of the final lap.
Winning, being the point of racing. Gesturing being a waste of time and effort.

It was a great race ........ The " waving " , as Murray Walker put it ( 12 : 06 ) , occurred half way through the race , and although Roberts went by immediately afterwards , they were swapping places so often I don`t think it would have had any bearing on the outcome at that point in time ......

Roberts had a substantial lead at the start of the last lap ........ so if anyone knew the correct line through those last two corners , it was Sheene , who with a monumental effort closed to within a fraction of a second of Roberts at the flag ......

I always find it amusing that Murray keeps referring to Will Hartog as a " grass farmer " ......... What exactly are you inferring Murray ... ? .....

Also , I always thought Roberts was the most stylish rider of that era , sort of like Jarno Saarinen , but without all the elbows .....

I also reckon Sheene`s best performance in a race was in 1982 , maybe Brazil , just a few weeks before his career ending ( in effect ) Silverstone collision ........ I`m going to have to look that up now .....

OK , so it was Argentina , not Brazil ......... maybe if not the best , this has to be one of the best of Sheene`s performances , especially nearing the end of his racing career ............ Roberts reckoned if it was`nt for that Silverstone practice crash , where Sheene collided with Patrick Ioga`s fallen Yamaha , then Sheene would have been in with a very good chance of winning his third 500 cc title that year , especially as Roberts himself was also nearing the end of his career .........

As for the race , second place for Sheene this time too .......... bloody backmarkers again , innit ... ? .....

Ex works Laverda SFC / Spaceframe Triple rider Marco Lucchinelli finishes in fifth place ......
