Featherbed Laverda

you can view a Rover V8 engined featherbed in the motor museum at Jurby in the IOM and also ditto with a Hillman imp engine, I wonder which of those two is better? both are certainly better than my Morris Minor engined Triumph (with sprung hub) and side car outfit, I wish I had a picture but I dont. what one does for fun when young and skint eh!

Only needed to last the 1/4 mile.

Bloke was already a legend 50 years ago, Two Wheels did a great article on him. Spun the V8 to max. revs and rocked it off the rear stand, crazy bugger.

crazy indeed, his V8 bikes were just amazing , five off was it, only the first being in a Harley chassis, as Piet says full chat and rock off the rear wheel stand, but the wheel had to spin all the way down the strip and at the end, he could not shut off for fear of a massive wheelie, he had to hit the engine kill switch or he would be dead!, incidently at the time Esso were offering (in the USA) "tyres for life" if you ever wore out your tyres in the same ownership of your car, they were replaced free of any charges, so Mad man of Michigan (E J Potter) would shred the tread to death on his Esso rear tyre on Sunday and get it swapped for a free one on Monday!

I have seen many articles on this Lawrence guys bikes and seen one or two at shows.
I find them mostly badly designed and fairly ugly ducklings that will take a lot of work to grow into swans.
Especially wiggly exhausts round side stand fittings etc instead of engineering a clever side stand in the first place.
Very shabby looking side panels and little imagination. with relatively basic skill level and execution.
Probably why he does not want them ridden :D:D
However, fair play to him for doing his own thing.

you are bang on Julian, this mans tool kit is seriously imited, he does not even have a hydraulic workbence, he uses a DIY Black and Decker workmate, no bench grinder, no drill press, definately no welding gear of any type and you would be very lucky to see Snap on, Facom, Blue point, Gedore, Stahwhile or even Draper imprinted on anything in his kitchen dresser tool chest
