Final Drive Chain

I've bought two bikes that had no spring clip on the connecting link. The first one I actually rode home before discovering it. The second one I bought a couple of months ago but hadn't ridden as it needed some fixing up. I only noticed the missing clip last weekend while I was preparing it for its roadworthy inspection.

What is it with dopey owners that don't know how to put them on properly? It's not rocket science.

Cheers,
Cam

Cam, if they were O ring chains there is a simple explanation.

Firstly there is a fundamental design fault with 99% of spring clips produced, and
secondly on O ring chains there is a little trick that keeps them in place.

In O ring chain it is the force fit of the plate that is important not a clip or a rivet.
A soft rivet will be easily destroyed by the force needed to dislodge the plate. I will not go
into a long winded dialogue now as I have to dressed  :D :D but I have educated those who
visit my stall at shows and when I have had enough coffee I will sit down and explain all.

With O ring yes it will secure the clip. All you need to do is tap the pins on the clip side with a hammer and the plate will jar its way back against the clip. With O ring the clip is not even needed as the press fit is enough.

With non O ring most of the clips have a basic design fault and I change them for well designed ones on chains I sell. Each one costs me but at least I sleep at nights.

Again too boring to go into on here and why should I help manufacturers for free although I have pointed it out to people who come to shows.
