Finally - Dead-Accurate RGS Tacho + Speedo

Lads,

Some of you have seen this on FB, but I know some dislike the Vaguelia dash as much as me, so here goes. Since every other system on my RGS is either new or maximized, I decided I couldn't live with the ever-hopeless tach, wavering as it did all over the place. We replaced the input chip without improvement; I bought a frequency generator and tried to calibrate it, which it would do at the calibration RPM but not elsewhere. Pffft. Be gone, Veglia!

Utah's Speedhut to the rescue, with their fully customizable gauges. Stepper motor tacho and GPS speedo with Novitatech idiot lights. Works very well; GPS speedo does drop signal in tunnels and briefly a few other places around town, but is otherwise rock-steady. And dead-accurate. I'm chuffed.

Hahaha, 3D printed. Made entirely by hand with 3/8" ABS.

Kristian, that looks very nice and well made! is that rubber between the inner fairing and the instrument plate the same as for the headlight? looks a bit alike...

Thanks, similar, it is high quality general edge trim from an auto parts store, has adhesive inside so it stays put.

ksoholm - A square head light in a fairing is NOT Radar Stealth ;o)

I have an OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) friend with access to radar equipment and my 70 750 SFO could not be read with the round head light and a 3/4 Rickman fairing but my 82 Suzuki GWX-R with a square head light and 3/4 fairing was locked in. Now we are going back in time here - Don't know what the Cops have to day ?

We are rather getting off topic here ;o)

Bye the way my 70 SF0 was only 17.5 inches wide Peg to Peg and could hit over 120 mph down any straight.

Aside from Photo Imagery and Lazer Blah Blah! - It kinda sucks ;o(

But will say a round Headlight Dome in a faring is better stealth then a square head light and you may get away with it - I have.

Wanna hear the story of a Dodge Red Wagon 340 Mag Vs a Breganzie 750 SF0 and a horrid of cops armed with radar - RLOF !

My 1100 Sport Guzzi had a rectangular that was next to useless.  Made Joseph Lucas look like the King of Light instead of the Prince of Darkness.  The Dremel and I worked some magic on the cutout and replaced it with a pair of 4? halogens that lit the road up like daylight.

Getting the cutout right was PAINFULLY TEDIOUS. Now to paint the panel. Couldn't find black abs so made the panel out of fibreglass and epoxy. Hope the stupid thing works! At least now I can rev it right up to 15k!

Hey Drikko, instead of painting it why not laminate it with a nice piece of walnut burl? Very classy 8)

I put a huge amount of time making the instrument bracket which is also part of the structural integrity of the fairing/headlight mount. I reused the SFC1k Vauglias. I like the period look of them but the RPM instrument has broken it's needle and now nearing 35 years old so both are in need of a good service. Have thought about replacing them with something like Drikko has done but am reluctant to as it's involves playing with ally plate and carbon fibre. Like the idea of an accurate speedo though. Not keen on digital either.
I should really just send them to Jason and stop procrastinating. It's the easiest option.
