Finding info/Search

Is there a trick to finding specific information amongst the masses of it (among the even greater masses of noise) on this great forum?
The current example, I tried finding the SF wiring diagram which I am certain I have seen, and cannot find it.
I tried Search function, Library and search, everything I could think of, different wording etc but could use a day to sift through it.
I now tried to find the incredible info from John when helping Motoddrob fault find his charging issue. In the end I just went through pages and pages of posts from Rob until I found it under the "Weird" title. I will use those tests to find a charging problem on my sons CBR600.
What am I doing wrong?
 
I get the best results from using the click on SEARCH FORUM words, the magnifying glass icon isn't much chopped. It's a result of the wandering style of posting I guess. But I really dislike the anal stay-on-topic stuff, it kills the free flow of chatting. I struggle sometimes and ask and then am amassed someone else posts a link really quickly. Even when I hone in as much as I can sometimes simple stuff just doesn't come up.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. The forum search facility relies on searching the database using the MySQL whole word search feature. It's limit is 3 characters so searching on SF won't bring anything back.

There's not a lot I can do to improve things on our shared server. There are solutions that use features available on a dedicated server. This comes at way more cost.

My get out of jail card is to use Google search. From a Chrome browser, type laverdaforum.com: (note colon at the end) followed by what you want to search for (e.g. laverdaforum.com: SF wiring)

If it's any consolation, I too struggled to find a search string to retrieve Rob's tale of woe.
 
No, it's not easy, Tippie - at least not as easy as it is sometimes made out to be :confused:.

The Forum is like an over-stuffed library. Lots of books, but finding the one you want can be well-nigh impossible.

I frequently cut and paste info on topics that I think might one day interest me and then save them onto my hard drive. Problem is, how do you know what you might want in the future?

My advice: after 30 minutes of searching and not finding, brave the wrath of (some) Forum members and simply ask. Hey, who knows? I might have the info you want stored on my hard drive ...:giggle::giggle:
 
I have a free spell checker that worked great for a short while and gradually became pretty crap constantly telling me I need their fee-driven upgrade. My go-to now is Google, it's much more powerful at unscrambling my horror spelling. Good to know Rob's search tip regarding Google.

Has anyone drawn up a wiring diagram (with wire colors) for the early 750SF? I'm doing some troubleshooting on my '71 (#6349, Bosch 155 headlamp, Smith's instruments), and naturally there are a few anomalies after 40+ years. I was surprised to note that the headlamp itself is a Lucas 700 unit...

I use Gramerly and the browser is Chrome the . I get if my spelling is completely unrecognisable it's hard to fix but lots of times it's 1 letter in a word and that's missed.
 
Foreign language to me John! One thing I've never become majorly competent is electronics - fine with electrics generally, but ... I'd love to know what's inside one of those little blue or brown cylinders - if you break one open what do you see?
