Fitting a Side Stand

I have one on my 3c and love it. But need the collective wisdom on the last version to fit a 180 Jota with left-side change rear sets and keeping the centre stand. I recall reading about changing the bracket to do this but I don't think it happened. I know Paul added a spacer and I know some cut the centre stand tang off and either dock it a bit or reweld it to fit. This bike is a nuts and bolts rebuild so I doubt he wants to do that. So whats it take to fit these great stands and get both to play with each other? BTW I know Grant sells them but does anyone have Jota Joe's contact?

The Breganzie Side Stand was only designed to work with Factory Specific Sized Tires for the 2 and 3 Cyl's models in order so that she would not Fall Over using the Swing Arm on a perfectly flat solid surface. That's why Breganzies came with a Center Stand.

A lot of Breganzie riders use the extended Kawasaki Swing Arm to solve this issue.

Do what whatever you have to do to STOP a Breganzie from falling over if you insist of using the Side Stand ;o)

I doubt he will want to fit an extended Kawasaki swingarm to his Concoure 81 Jota anytime soonish. I am interested in a neat and tidy way to fit the Kawasaki side stand and have an easy-to-operate Centre Stand for an 81 Jota with left-change rear setts. Can it be done without cutting and welding the centre stand tang? Didnt I just write all that before? It's for a smart older bloke who wants to keep riding it and isn't a ballet dancer in his spare time.

That's a shame, so zero possibility to Tardus it all in. On my 3c I have the same, rear sets but the centre stand tang is only 30mm long, it takes a big heave but it still works ok and misses the side stand. I guess a disc rear has completely different spacings.

Vince, contacted Jota Joe in April. Told me to go through Grant Dugaid Club Laverda Facebook. I don’t do Facebook so managed to copy a mates bracket/spacer and get bolts. Got a NOS Kwak ZXR6R sidestand off Ebay for 30 quid. Works a treat. I have standard Jarama footrests and r/h gearchange though. And yes if you don’t want to butcher the centre stand like myself you do have to become adept at the ‘side stand shuffle’ ! when retracting it. The centre stand works as normal with no fouling, Not found it an issue myself. The original forward mounted sidestand was useless but I put up with it for some time. However when I fitted Avon RoadRiders to the bike to replace the BT45’s it became dangerous to use and would fall over with the slightest push. Avon’s have a slightly higher profile I presume.

I have a similar issue with the Alazera, Cagivas version of a Pantah side stand fitted to my Pantah. It's 1000% harder to fit than the Jota Joe stand. The whole exhaust plus the lower engine mount bolt plus the side stand must come off first, you need to find a way to hold the bike up while doing all this and then you end up needing to extend the side stand which also pops the centre stand down, get off and put it on the centre stand and pop the side stand back as they interfere with each other. Painful but having a side stand becomes important as you get older if you want to keep riding heavy old bikes. I hope someone has a fix for this.

I have a Jota (not 81 but I don't think it makes any difference) with left side rearset gearshift, and yes, I had to cut the foot tang off the centre stand and weld it back on in a slightly different spot so that both stands could be used independently.
I believe later versions of the sidestand bracket have the side stand mounting holes shifted rearward to avoid the problem. Some folks have used an intermediate 3-hole plate to achieve the same thing. Looks a bit like Meccano.

If you have a mark 1 version of the side stand bracket, it would be simple enough to modify that if you'd prefer not to modify the centre stand. Whose bike are we talking about anyway? If it's someone local I'd be happy to modify their stand mounting plate. It just needs a bit welded to the back edge to accommodate another bolt hole. Might end up not looking quite as pretty as it was.

I also am having issues with throwing the leg over the 81 jota when wanting to get off, That kwaka ZXR6R side stand
that Steve Rocker attached to his 81 jota might be the way to go. Any chance of a photo Steve Rocker ?

I don’t know how much the ‘ready made kit is’. I’m a cheap skate, getting the new sidestand off eBay cheaply and getting a good mate to make the mounting bracket and spacer, getting my own fixings. I can post photos but at present I’m away from home in an isolated cottage on The Isle of Harris in The Outer Hebrides.

Steve Rocket, thanks for the info about the side stand, no need for photos, I've had so much help from other members.
Cheers Finny
