Fixing leaky fuel taps

I noticed that the SFC's fuel taps were weeping a bit, so decided to replace them with the new set I bought for the Jota.
This fixed the issue, so I stripped the old ones to see if they can be repaired.

Both are the 90 degree type, with flat rubber gaskets inside. The seal is provided by the rotating metal plate pressing on the rubber. The pressure on the plate is provided by a wavy steel washer clamped under the screwed- on cover plate ( the one with ON / RES / OFF on it) Everything looked OK, I couldn't really see why they had been leaking, except if wear meant the contact between metal and rubber was no longer firm enough to make a seal.

Maybe if I skim the top of the housing, this will put a bit more compression on the rubber and stp the leak.
Anyone tried this before?

Steve

I take off the tank, take off the Cap slosh and drain my tank with gas then spray into the tank cavity with Red Rust Check, every season - Plus Drain the Carb Bowls blow out the lines and Jets and treat with Red Rust Check,

I also pull the plugs, spray Cylinders with Red Rust Check and spin the mill over and loosely tighten in the plugs for winter storage.

Your Fuel Taps, Nylon Filters and Gaskets will appreciate Red Rust Check and that goes for all your electrics and the rest of your ride including that leaking Enricher O-Ring Plunger and Cable Ends.

Reckon OCT have them as well, Steve.  Please give Dirk a call.

Usually hardening or a deep imprint of the revolving thingy in the rubber seal causes leaks.  One more reason to use your bikes more often!

I had exactly the same problem on my SFC Steve. What I did was bending the "wave" compression spring a bit more so that the height of the wave is a bit higher and thus gives more pressure on the rubber.
Works perfect for me but watch out not to make sharp bends on the spring otherwise it might breaks because I think it?s a kind of hardend material.
grtz,      Ren?

I tried fixing mine using all of these methods.  Nothing worked.  However, mine had been sitting for 15 years before I showed up.  Got the new ones from Wolfgang.  They don't leak, but you gotta remember which way to turn them off since they are both the same valve.
