Flasher Cans

I lost all 4 blinkers heading home from last weekend's ride, there are conventional bulbs, not LEDs. Made the blast at night up the 100ks over the Blue Mountains and the M2 Expressway into the centre of Sydney interesting. They worked before I left. My first guess is a failed flasher can as whatever has failed must affect all 4. I seem to remember there are 2 types, Electronic and errr non-electronic. Not exactly great at this stuff. I seem to remember trying an electronic one once and it did not work on the system I have. Any tips on this appreciated. As my wiring isn't standard I really cannot remember where the bloody thing is, so I will hunt it out tomorrow, its either headlight bucket which I doubt or under the seat. I guess if it's got power in and none out while active it's gone to god?

The Motogadget m-flash® units are awesome. They compensate for differing wattages F/R and/or how many indicators are fitted. Around 1cm³ in size with a 2-wire fitment. I have since fitted them to 4 of my Laverdas, sick and tired of the old tin cans' inconsistant, unreliable flashing and eventual failures.

They are a bit pricey at almost €30 a hit, but they should last forever if they're not overly abused.

I have a Tridon (Australian) two pin electronic flasher bought at Repco type place decades ago, cost a fortune at about $10, it doesn't matter how many watt bulbs, flashes perfect. On the SF it is located just by the fuse box, not sure about your 3C. Simple wiring to these things, the power for flashers goes through it just before it goes to the handlebar switch.

So test for + going in to the flasher and that will confirm your connections up to the flasher. The flasher might still be ok at that point.
Check your connections away too, up towards the handlebar switch, there’s bound to be another one near your headlight?
But having said that, chuck a new flasher at it anyway, doesn’t have to be special if you’re not using LEDs, as long as it has the same number of connections, and it’s the easiest way to test it 😁
 
Found it, so 2 trips to Repco for both expensive and cheap flasher cans got nowhere. So I started wiggling wires and that found the general direction. With the loom wiggled into one spot I got all flashers working but not the dash indicator, more wiggling got it all working. So I just need to find and fix that intermittent poor continuity near the steering head and headlight interface.

Bypass the can ( link the 12Volt positive to the feed connection going to the left handle bar switch ) ignition on, select left or right switch position and then chase your intermittent wire, if not already done so Vince.

The dash indicator gets its return to 0V via the non flashing lamps ie if you select left turn the lamp gets its return to battery via the right hand not flashing lamps, reverse operation when right is selected flashing lamps. the indicator lamp bridges across left and right lamps. HTH J.
