Flying Commercial Passenger Jets!

> Of course it then taxied out took off.

I think these were some of the junk I ended up in. On a more upbeat note, when I was green behind the ears, sat in a Lagos airport I needed to split a large denomination dollar bill, and passed it to a bloke who said he would return shortly. The guys I was with, older and more worldly, were rolling around laughing when I told them what I’d done. I had the last laugh when the bloke returned with a handful of small denom bills. Good for the soul.

One of the first flights I remember was an internal flight in Bulgaria in 1974, I was six. I can remember thinking that the plane was very old, had curtains and propellers. The crew lifted the floor boards in the gangway and started doing something which unnerved my mum. From memory, my Dad told mum they were priming the hydraulics and it was perfectly normal. We then had an atrocious holiday in communist Bulgaria - it was like being in a Harry Palmer film. My Dad worked for BOAC, BEA then BA and would often go up to talk to the pilot and once spent the whole flight to Miami in the cockpit , I think they are all locked in nowadays. I flew first class in a Jumbo when the upstairs was a lounge with a self service bar, proper cinema screen and had pre fight champers and Lobster Thermidor served by stewardess’s who were awfully posh and spoke two languages . Now I sit in cattle class where I’m lucky if I get offered a Luke warm cheese toasty by a bloke wearing make up…
