For the Bean Counters-Zane Engine numbers

I'm putting together 2 of 750S Zane motors at the moment. Shame on me, but the casings off my road bike that I bought new look like shit, but the casings for the track bike look great.

I am thinking of swapping them over. The numbers concerned are 1358 and 1552.

Matching numbers means a lot in the Breganze world, but does it mean much in the Zane world??

Is there a register somewhere that down the track my Zane will be devalued from $5 to $2 because it is not the OEM engine?

Regards, Greg

Zanes  never had matching numbers they will be close but they don't match, if you got one with matching numbers it was by pure chance

No, but you said matching numbers mean a lot in the Breganze world, which isn't necessarily your opinion of course. I gave mine.

You asked TWO questions ....... I'd say Paul answered this one - "Matching numbers means a lot in the Breganze world, but does it mean much in the Zane world??" ....... and so did Cosi.

No one has answered the other question ......

Not to my certain knowledge, Greg.  I've just had a quick look over on the Yahoo forum in the Files section, thinking that would be the most likely place.  But there's nothing I could find there.

Ciao

As already stated, Zanes never had matching numbers (maybe except the first bikes of each production), as engines for replacements were taken out of production, already stamped... So - having a higher number on the engine than on the chassis is very likely; not the other way around though...

For the registry, there is the Yahoo Zane-List that give a good indication of what frame and engine-numbers were "matching"...  ;)

Where did you find that, Lothar?  I looked and failed ...

There is a registry of the Zane bikes in the Zane-List on Yahoo where Frame numbers and engine-numbers (only partly...) are listed. It is by far not complete but gives a good indication. You can find it by clicking on "Database" on the top, then take the first entry listed. In the Database, you can scroll to the right to see the engine numbers. You need to be signed in to see it. Direct link (hope it works...):

Ah, thanks Lothar.  The 'Database' tab wasn't showing when I went to look before - which explains why I failed to find it  ::).

Had even forgotten my own bike is on there ... (insert dozy old sod emoji)
