Fork shortening,

I know a lot of people push the tubes through the yokes by 10-30mm. but whats the crack with getting them shortened as i want them to fit flush with the yokes.

Steepens head angle and quickens the steering... also lowers the entire front end, often causing cornering clearance issues.

I'd be looking for longer rear shocks. :D  Achieves the former and avoids the latter.

FFF, was your question about 'how' to have forks shortened (so you can have them flush with the yokes) or 'why' riders drop the yokes down the forks? Bit confus-ed  :-\

the question was more to do with the actual shortening of the tubes. i'm well aware of why one would do so and its effect. would just prefer the forks to sit flush with the yokes.

You have can get all different lengths for either ceriani or marzos, pull one out measure and the work backwards, you have cerianis yeah? They should be 595mm, you can get 580 and 570 mm jobbies I believe

Hi Padders,

As you are building a Special with a collection of various parts, I understand why you want to alter the stanchion length to get the bike sitting "right".

I had overlength Marzocchi's on my first Jota so had them shortened at the local machine shop. I took the chrome tubes in, and he shortened and re-threaded the end where the alloy stopper screws into.

Fairly simple procedure for him, and as he had two to work on, there was always a reference for him!

As long as you are 100% certain that you are shortening them by the right amount  :) :)  and you avoid the middle exhaust hitting the mudguard under braking  :o the job's a good 'un.

I'll be getting the Ceriani stanchions done on my 3C project as soon as I've worked out the right length - I deliberately bought NOS 610mm ones so I could raise and lower them until I found the right height to balance the altered rear subframe on the bike.

David Burton Engineering 01253 868111 did mine, but I daresay there are perfectly good places nearer to you
