fuel catalysts

So why do they still belch black reek out the exhaust when the pedal hits the metal?
Is all that particulate carbon saving the planet?

because it's a big con brought on us by the ECO-Nazis :'(

What ever it is, you won't be able to sell a Diesel car in Germany without it anymore, as it won't get the "green" sticker for the windscreen and without it, you may not enter certain areas of the cities...  :o

So -it won't pay off today, but it will when I sell my car. Plus I got a cash back from tax and pay less tax in the future (or to put it right: without the cat and the filter, I would pay MORE tax in the future...).

I vote for a road charge system in Germany for cars if they drop tax for that. Would float cash into our government and my employer would have to pay the road charge for me...  :D Would even free up the highways a bit, I am sure, but would take away the ability to sentence the owners of bigger cars. Not sure this is bad though...  :D

I just drained the Mirage fuel tank as it goes to the painter tomorrow. As I was lifting it off the bike after draining it I heard a rattle of something inside it.
I managed to fish it out through the filler opening and it was, lo and behold, one of these fuel catalyst things we were discussing at the top of this thread!
It seems to be 4 blobs of metal in a stainless steel gauze mesh.
Free to good home if anyone wants to try it out. (I won't be using it).

Many years ago I used to use an octane booster on my 1200 because I had it bored and installed hi-compression pistons. (10.5 to 1). Back then I was using the factory ignition and had trouble with pinging. Looking back I think that might have been a waste of time and money as well.

Because of disastrous head damage on my 1200 on a trip to Holland last time I bought some Valvemaster Plus for the trip to Spa this year as an insurance.
In the end the cat's operation put paid to that.
But I would not want the same consequences as last time. Maybe the Corsa head is tougher than the 1979 1200 head, but if/when I do that trip I will still use the additive.
Cost me 1500 euros to get the head done last time.

I used to add 2 stroke oil to my RD 250 back in the early 80's . I used a whacking great big plastic syringe about 250 ml sizeto squirt it in the tank opening. One night it slipped out me hand and dropped in the tank. So being a patient lad I thought..never mind I'll fish it out later when I can see what I'm doing.
The next Saturday..I slipped the tank off after draining the fuel through the taps , inverted it and shook..All I heard were the sound of silence.
It were gone ! Combusted and exhausted...

Halcyon days  :D

I have heard that it make sense to put smal amount of two stroke oil every now and then on full tank .
Yes,
Put some Castrol TT or castor oil and the smell will take you back to the 2 stroke days of your youth.
A.K.A. aroma therapy. Can not see any other benefit of this procedure.

Better for al the rubber seals in carburetors etc.. keeping them flexible?

the tax is the charge for using the road, lothar and it's already enough. i can't imagine anything more wasteful than giving our government even more money to piss against the wall or even worse, give to the very wretched greeks.
