Fuel Line...again

Ariete 8 x 13 has landed. I think it's a good snug fit over the carbs and I'm confident the wee spring clips I had on the Cavis line will do fine. However this new hose slips over the petcocks with slightly less resistance. Still a good fit but I want it leak free so I'll use a neat SS fuel clip that can be screwed tight.

It's a nice fuel line and supple. A great deal too. Result!!!

where did you buy the 8 x 13? Couldn't find it on the website which lists the 7 x10

Tried 8mm ID fuel line first, and it seem to fit at the beginning, but during riding started to leak  on nearly all joints, worst leakage was on the petcocks (old cube style ones).

Now with 7mm ID fuel line it works fine, no leakage anymore.

Paul,

Found it here:

Couldn't find the 7 x 12 silicone Grant suggested.

See you in 6 months time... :D

It'll be as hard and discoloured as all the other known PVC type lines.

that seller apparently only sells within the UK, and states will not ship to Canada.

doing the metric to Imperial conversion, 7 mm i.d. is roughly 0.28 inches, which converts to 9/32, being 1/32 smaller than the commonly available 5/16 inch fuel line commonly available in North America. I suspect 5/16 should work, if decent fuel line quality.

Motion Pro sells some clear or black or gray 5/16 fuel line by the three foot length      http://www.motionpro.com/product/12-0057  or by the 25 foot length for quite a bit of money, and while I have not yet used any Motion Pro fuel line, there other products are typically decent quality for the most part. I did not see any blue or green or blue/green listed though

I'm sure he'll ship to Canada if you ask him nicely..

I'll be over there myself in a month, will pick some up myself and can forward some to you easily enough if you're interested.

Hi Paul

You could just simply get some blue/green stuff from Bevel Heaven and am sure the shipping to you wouldnt be as much as is to us here.. he is a real nice bloke and the hose works good and takes longer than 6 months to go off

Or just get some from Bevel Heaven which is blue/green and he is a nice bloke to deal with and would ship to you on Canada

https://store.bevelheaven.com/cavisbenz

Or if its green stuff you are looking for then try this guy out as he is in good ol' Sacramento and ships world wide.. so reckon that would inc across the Northern Borders of the USA.

Probably won't ship to the Highlands of Scotland either- an amazing number of sellers won't.  You'd think the Post Office (ships by weight/dimension not distance in the UK) didn't exist. :'(

couple of photos, taken today, both sets of fuel line from Wolfgang.

the carbon fiber and gold 79 1200, the fuel line has been on the bike with fuel in it for about two years. The fuel has ethanol in it, somewhere between 5 and 10 per cent. Whatever this fuel line is, it is still bright blue two years on, and is still flexible, with no signs of turning colour. The actual colour is fairly bright blue, and is not technically "correct" as to original new Cavis Benz colour, but I would rather not go up in flames.

the silver 82 1200, the fuel line has been on the bike for slightly less than a year with fuel in it, same fuel as the other bike, the fuel line is starting to turn a bit greenish, and has started to harden. Will likely replace it again some time this summer, even semi hard fuel line scares me silly, I have an extreme aversion to any risk of fire no matter how small...

I have no idea what either fuel line is, or what the differences are technically, but if I can get any more of the same bright blue line from Wolfgang I am going to try again to buy a significant length of it to have around. Wolfgang is interesting to deal with, I suspect this stuff may be somewhat hard to get, he sort of rations it out, happy to sell it a meter at a time, but not keen to sell me major length of the stuff last time I asked........ ;) ;)

thinking about trying to emulate original fuel line, to be most authentic, maybe I should be looking for brownish greenish fuel line, to duplicate what Cavis Benz fuel line looks like after a year or so on the bike, before it shrivels, becomes totally brittle, then goes dark brown and breaks at the fuel tap or carb fittings............... ::) ::)

Hello Paul,

I had similar issues with the green Cavis Benz fuel line and swapped everything out for the blue stuff sold by Dennis Kirk. Since then, and it's been a few years, I've had no issues with hardening fuel line anymore. Perhaps an alternative to stock in your man cave.

Gerald

Personally, I use Gates 8.0mm XL fuel line; doesn't go brittle and doesn't discolour (always stays black).

:o Blackish green, or black black.
If it's black black, at least no one sees that pesky little air bubble that's always there.

dirt cheap, shame about cheapest shipping offered to the UK via Fedex at $60.90!

Hi Shaun

that is typically my problem in reverse, shipping from the UK is sometimes reasonable, sometimes so brutal that there is no sense in going ahead with the purchase. I usually contact the vendor and ask if they will just stick the product in the mail but often they do not want to be bothered, sometimes the same even from the U.S.A. to Canada....
