Fuel tap blues...

Into the garage to the sweet smell of super unleaded...bugger. my right fuel tap has had a very slight weep for ages, as long as i ride the bike regularly it stops.
A slipped disc + sciatica in June meant the bike sat around. Started riding again last week, now the left tap has let go big style overnight. I drained the tank and panic bought some metal BAP taps, I've seen mixed reports on them but they were quickest delivery.

Not sure if Shaun does them too: I've had repro square ones off him which work very well...
 
Whatever taps you use as replacement, make sure the bore for the main fuel feed is as large as the OEM item!
When i visited Wolfgang a few weeks ago we discussed fuel line and he showed me a replacement square tap with 2 identical, small bores. Perhaps OK for places where you can't drive fast, but fatal on German Autobahn :o

Keep well away from German Autobahns because:
a) they're for autos
b) they're so regularly congested that I give them a miss
c) when you find an uncongested portion with no speed limit and can ride fast in a straight line if so inclined, you have to brake every few kilometres because a speed limit suddenly appears

Will do, they are listed for my mirage amongst others but we have all "heard that before "  my usual road haunts are the beacons, south west and mid wales, the autobahns will be built when the F1 track at merthyr is completed  :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

I have "some experience ". Three mates and an acoustic bass in a citroen Ami, Bristol to the Oktoberfest in the early 80's, canvas roof rolled back so the bass stuck out of the roof...flat out..probably 75mph down the autobahn...freezing and soaking  >:D

?300 cheaper to use German Autobahns (no payable tolls) and a slightly longer route, similar duration, than through France for the bi-annual visit to Breganze and if you don't know what or where that is.....................

Shamefully never been, 2007 Ducati factory tour when I had my old multistrada and Carmarthenshire to amalfi coast and back in 2014 on my 31/2 Morini...I'll get there eventually.

Quite usefull for getting from A to B quickly, especially at night.  They can be a pita around big metro areas, but easy peasy normally.  Restrictions aren't too bad either, far better to have all rolling at close to the same speed as having some idiots flying through at 250km/h and causing havoc.  No problem doing it when you're on your own for as far as you can see, but totally irresponsible in normal traffic.

Well, trailer hauling is limited to 80km/h, or 100km/h in the case of certain car/trailer combos.  And with good reason.  Most drivers are completely overwhelmed when things go pear-shaped with a trailer on the hitch.  Especially heavy, overladen examples.  Trailer maintenance is very often neglected, decades-old tyres and non-functioning brakes.  Results are not pretty.

Some may say it is over-regulating on the part of the authorities, but, as long as common sense is so rare on public roads, I'm all for it.  Really don't relish the thought of being murdered by some moron that thinks he can handle a 4-ton, articulated, under-maintained juggernaut at 150+ km/h.

And I think that the restriction should be applied to cars as well "most drivers are completely overwhelmed when things go pear shaped with ....a car".
They are overwhelmed when it rains, when it snows, when it's freezing, when it's dark.

It would be very simple to avoid neglected trailer maintenance to put a T?V on trailers and tax them.
Would bring some money in to pay for hospitals and pensions and give the honest citizen a good reason for discontent.

They do need to be tested bi-annually and are taxed.  Too many loopholes though, some seriously shitty stuff on the roads.

As motorcycle noobs are restricted in most of Europe, I wish the same would apply to cars as well.  Far too many young kids with far too many ponies at their command, street racing fatalities are steadily rising here.  Can't really expect an 18-year-old to act responsibly, most think they're immortal behind a steering wheel/handlebar.

We used to have an 80kph limit when towing a trailer here in Tasmania, but that limit was lifted a few years ago. We still have general speed limits up to 110 on freeways, so you can't go crazy with a trailer. I suspect the limit was removed to avoid differential speeds on highways. I reckon they were getting a few incidents of frustrated drivers trying to overtake cars towing trailers.

I got booked for doing 100kph with a trailer after the limit was lifted. It was on a stretch of road where the speed limit was 100, but the cop wasn't aware that the trailer limit no longer applied. I tried to tell him but he was having none of it, so I had to accept the ticket. I immediately wrote a letter to the police commissioner asking that the fine be withdrawn. They eventually reduced the speeding charge to an "official warning" (goes on your police record but carries no penalty) a few days before I was due to appear in court. That's happened to me twice - a police cock up has ended up with me being "officially warned" for doing absolutely nothing wrong.
