Gallery - user albums

Apologies to those of you who tried to use the gallery in recent times.  For some odd reason - maybe when I updated the software - it reverted to settings that made uploading troublesome and viewing impossible until files were approved. Unfortunately no email was being sent saying that uploads were awaiting authorisation!  Anyways, all now sorted (I hope).

It is possible to arrange your own personal albums rather than just lumping everything into one - here's how:

Go to 'My profile' in the Gallery, you'll find a drop down menu list with 'Create/order my albums'.
It should just show ' * My Gallery * ' in the 'Select Category' dropdown box.  There may be a glitch that also lists 'Bike of the Month entries'.  If there is, please ignore that category and don't select it or your uploads will end up there!

So after checking  * My Gallery * is selected as the Category, click the ' + New album button '  ( the + is in green, below right).

Add your new album name and 'OK' it

Then navigate on the top menu to 'Upload file'.  The rest of the process should be straightforward. Just remember to 'apply changes' after the edit upload page and all should be good.
 
Hi Rob,

I just realised, while trying to post an image from the Gallery, that Windows 10 no longer displays the "Properties" function.   
How does one get hold of the URL address data, i.e. the data needed between the two tags?
I've tried various ways, including via Chrome, but no luck.

Hi Tom
If you use Chrome, click on the thumbnail photo  to get it to display at its intermediate album size. Then click on it again to open it full size, usually pops up in a separate window.

Right click that window to open menu box. Select copy image address. That's what you want.

 
Genuine question here.
How many people actually use the gallery?
I never use it as it's a faff and not on the main page.
I use photo hosting sites to post photos in the context of the discussion in the thread at hand.
A previous iteration of this site had a gallery and  Wiki page where you could show more detail, a bit like some stuff on the Laverdamania page.
I guess the Hints and Tips section is as close as we get these days to the Wiki section.
 
I use my own hosting after giving up on the gallery and losing patience with Flickr. Problem is most modern phones take such massive images these days you have to reduce them anyway to be able to use the gallery, but I recognise file storage would be untenable with much higher limits. If hosting allows and you increase the file limits I?d use the gallery again.

I fear your own server disagrees with you. Just tried a 3.7MB image and this was the response. (Image screenshot, resized, uploaded to my server, then grabbed link to post here). I fear though that Gallery and Attachment are two different things which is probably the disconnect here. Can we add images straight to a post?

You're not uploading to the gallery. You're attaching to your forum post. To avoid the latter database getting indigestion, there is a smaller limit. In an ideal world, someone would write a mod that would compress forum attachments on the fly. But they haven't.
