Started leaking. I got the sealant for the inside & a guy told me JB Weld outside. Did this about 30 yrs ago. Put on new knee guards then. Can't get them now. Have to be careful. Now the filters are stuck. Can't pull them out. Got the tank frying in the sun hoping it will loosen them. Any other suggestions???

The filters unscrew from the fuel taps. Push them in and shake them out of the filler hole. Clean out the fuel tap holes with some sandpaper, reattach them to the taps and refitting them shouldn't be a problem.
Yep, the diameter of the filter 'top' can be a very close fit to the hole in the tank boss.
Suggest unscrew the filters from the taps. Poke the filters into the tank and then get them out through the fuel cap hole. Then lightly sand down the ends of the filters to a smaller diameter, as well as making sure the hole in the tank boss is clean.

What kind of sealant?
I've only ever used fibre washers between the tank spigot and petcock where they butt together. Just make sure the ends of the ends of both spigots are clean, flat and perfectly square to the centreline. Occasionally you have to give them a rub with a fine flat file or oilstone.
