Gear selector forks

I've had a problem on my RGS wanting to go into gear when neutral is selected, I.E. if sat stationary bike just grinds gears then jumps forward, so I have to always pull the clutch in when sat at lights. Now this is making my left arm look like Popeye on spinach. So I've split the cases and found when Iturn the primary gear shaft in neutral the selector fork is not holding the selector and trying to go into second, what should the thickness of a selector for be ? is mine giving too much play

Duncan just check that the gear linkage rods are free ( lhs)  - i had exactly this and eventually it would change - was just the universal ball in the coupler full of rust

But I have the engine cases apart and can see as I turn the Mainshaft the gears trying to engage, I supect it is a worn selector fork. just wanted measurement to be sure

Have you checked selector drum shiming?
