Gearbox sprocket cover for cable

As in title. With round inspection hole so as to fit a DAM kit to my 750 S. It won't fit with the kydney shaped hole.
Can swop.

I have a kidney holed cover that no one seems to want to buy, so is it valueless?

I also have a cable cover coming to the market very soon (maybe Wednesday), which is a repaired item, it was very badly cut by hand (that has been filled in with alloy sheet, and the round hole filled in as well), it is currently on my mates mill having a slot barely bigger than the M Cox supplied stainless arm and will give you more "extra leverage" than a DAM conversion. You really should keep the oval cover with the bike (just my take).

If you are interested, I will send you photos and I am sure my wheels will get cheaper, question is ???? by how much

Problem is Clem, I want to use the bike.
I even have a brand new kydney type cover as a spare. I'm keeping it.

I'll be back in there this winter to put a alloy clutch in there in lieu of the actual steel one. Might lighten the clutch up a bit.
And a duplex primary.
I did 140 km with the S on Saturday. I have a blister on the middle finger of my left hand and the screw holding the clutch lever on the nicely brazed bracket you did for me is progressively enlarging the hole.

Hi Paul. The profile of the kidney hole only slightly exceeds the round hole. So, you could file out the hole to an appropriate shape and fit a standard grommet, or one slightly larger. Obviously checking my suggestion carefully as you go, but try laying a round grommet over the kidney hole to see what it mean.
 
Not much in it, but I don't want to modify the original cover.
Hence my search for a round hole cover.
I ground down the DAM lever into near oblivion. Still no good.

That's not the problem. 40 years of Laverda make sure I have a strong left hand and the guitar keeps it that way.

But, I have arthritis in both hands and would like to keep riding my bikes for as long as possible.
But this one, in 140 km Saturday led to a blister on my left middle finger not to mention tendinitis in my left forearm. Not good.

Apparently those steel clutches are heavier than the alloy ones for some reason. Will be putting an alloy one in this winter.

I have done some optical calculations usuing every training course and letter after my name plus experience, and that DAM lever is going to distort to the point of inop. My cable cover is coming back Wednesday night and will get pictured on Thursday.

I've found what I need Clem.
I've had a DAM kit 2 years on my SF2, along with lighter throttle slide springs, and that will keep me riding my Laverdas for years.

The DAM arm in the photo, is after grinding.

I personally don't like the look of the DAM lever. Much prefer to slot the cover and use a straight lever.
Paul, why not open up the hole to suit the lever if the cover isn't the last one. I would have turned it into a round hole.
 
Totally agree Cam.
It doesnt matter how many Laverda logos you stick on them, they look shit.
Wont ever be putting that crap any where near my bikes.

When I brought my 1200 it came with the extended lever and bodged slot cut in the cover.. Looks like shit. Been thinking of getting another lever and going back to original and having the cover repaired. The clutch couldn't be heavier than my SFC and that has never been a problem. Something I'll do when I replace the clutch plates with kevlar jobbies.
 
If the slot in the cover is a neat cut with a round end then for me that is far less offensive than the other version.
But hey its all a matter of semantics and if it gets people using their bikes I guess its ok.

Still looks like shit but.
 
Years ago I installed a Longitudinally-Wound Clutch Cable from Motion-Pro on my 3c. Had it custom made and it still works very well. A much reduced clutch pull effort and minimal adjustments needed.

Long story short..I was off the bike for 18 months in chemo. Started riding again and was very weak.

Clutch pull effort was not a problem (lots of other strength related problems) even with those atrophied muscles in my hands. See if you can source a longitudinally-wound clutch cable.

Will look into those longitudinally wound cables, many thanks.

DAM lever isn't pretty and interferes a bit with my right ankle but if it can keep me riding well into my 70s, fine. I'd rather that than have pretty bikes in the garage.

Started on smaller bikes , and did big bikes ,finished on smaller bikes , thats the way of the game , long as its a motorbike , youll be happy with that in the end , never mind what make it is , just as long as you can still ride . As my dad says , enjoy the moment what ever the ride 👍🏻
 
If that?s your objective then I?d cut a slot in the cover and use a longer arm instead of that ugly thing, especially if you have a spare cover that you can keep intact..
 
I'll use the ugly thing.
I find the slot ugly as well, but keeps the cover intact.

As John says, in a few years, I won't be able to manhandle a large bike so I'll look for something smaller.
The Falcone fits the bill pretty well as soon as I get it sorted.

If the slot is done properly, is only as long and wide as necessary they are very unobtrusive. Not sure what the freak out is all about?! I'd rather have to buy a new cover when selling the bike than have to use the weirdo ones (if my bike was a rivet counter spesh) ... but that's just me.  And  rivet counter's things my bikes ain't.
