Generator (dynamo) belt -

Well, sort of.  Been tossing ideas around for several years, still a bit undecided what it will finish up as.  Old age has me tending towards a tracker style, don't get on with clip-ons very well any more. :D

Gotta love the tractor argument. I started with a 40's Farm-All and graduated to Combines by the time I was 12 or 14 - I was in a fortunate position.

Been thinking about this... not much more power than the original, but a huge weight saving.

The GPX alternator is an ND, light, easy to fit (well, if you're clever at that sorta thing  8) ) and saves weight on the battery, lose the regulator and all that wiring, and charges well at idle.

Quentin, what ratio are you using? I'm a little concerned that my Suzuki one my be spinning a little fast at the ratio I have. I'm guestermating that 8000rpm, my alternator will be up around 15000rpm. Maybe I need to increase the pulley dia at the alternator.

Chris, were you able to keep your cover original or did you have to get creative?

What was the original alternator that the Kuwait bikes had on them? Still looking to reduce weight on the Boba build but keep an electrical system for sort of legal street operations  8) but get rid of as much lead as possible.

Well ........ due to my creative side there is now a slot underneath the cover about 30mmL x 8mmW. This gives me 22mm of adjustment. A bit of silicone rubber fills in the gap/s.
I'll keep my eye on Greg's secret mini job, and Lothars tractor alternator conversion though.

Clay,

Not all Kuwait bikes had the alternator, my own Kuwait GTL has the normal Bosch DC generator.  Daihatsu uses a nice little 40A alternator on their small cars, very popular within the classic brit car fraternity because of it's small build and light weight.  Available quite cheaply on the aftermarket.

"Sounds like you are brushing up on your Aussie lingo, before the trip."

Chris, you drongo, the fuckin' tractor alternator was my fuckin' idea, that's another fuckin' beer you fuckin' owe me...

Howzat for a start? :D

I'll try and post pics of my alternator conversion. Only mod was to slightly bevel the inside front edge of the cover (invisible). it's a powerful ND unit. Most of the work went into making little stainless covers to allow air but not water to enter, being in a nice line to the front wheel!
