Genuine or Copy race leathers

I'm on the hunt for good used 2-piece racing leathers but there are obvious copies of the real deal. New, it's easy to tell (eg Dainese for UD&600 brand new! vs $4000+ for genuine) but used I'm having trouble distinguishing from ads. Is there an easy way to tell if something's 'fake'? I don't want to pay $400-500 for a phony set of Alpinestars when they were bought new for $600!

No idea, but I would be looking for as many venting holes as possible. My issue is finding anything over a size 65, which never happens with the Italian brands.

Look in the kids section, usually cheaper too.
Most racing people use one piece, but for the odd track day etc the versatility of two piece is great. Dedicated race leathers also are made with stronger construction, stitching, leather choice etc (at least top brands do) than road intended, but my road based Dainese suit handled a few racing offs fine.
My son bought made to measure here in Norway from a local mob that gets them made in Thailand, good quality and good price, maybe available from Oz if local made are too expensive. Don't Lav owners get a good price from a certain brand?
Very hard to differentiate fake from genuine these days.

get on to Smarty at Race and Road, makers of the Ricondi range of leathers
if they do not have your size they will make you a custom suit
go to any race meeting these days and you see Ricondi race leathers everywhere, can supply in Cow or Kangaroo for better bounce

as Red states, but they do have to be cow or kanga, plenty of leathers out there are "napper" which is goat and no good at all if you ask me, I have seen a bloke with the skin ripped from his back )both shoulders and both arse cheeks) when the back portion of his napper leathers and fitted back protector parted company with the rest of the suit, not pretty a month on his front and plastic surgery.
CLEM

Thanks Red. I had hoped to go with Ricondi, but I only went to the ricondi.com.au site and they only had one piece suits for $1150 and all were too big and out of stock!

I didn't know Smarty was Road & Race. I thought he was Ricondi itself. Good price for those 2-piece kits. I'm only looking for the odd track day but would like to use the gear on the road as well and one-piece is a bit restrictive.

Is it kosher to mention Laverda owner's clubs for a small discount? I'm wondering if I'd fit into a Junior suit? I'm165cm and 61kg wringing wet

I am thrilled with my zip together two piece Kangaroo custom Ricondi from Smarty. Custom fits my "mature" figure very well and accommodates my Tech Air 5 Air bag. Smarty was great to deal with, even from half a world away.

no problem mentioning Laverda and the Vic Owners Club and that you have watched us race in Vic
but depends on who answers the phone when you call, there are at least 5 people on duty at R&R every day now
business is booming

I found them when googling sprockets, it took a while to realise they were not Phil at Road and Race in Gosford, vintage Italian bike spares instead of Race and Road in Queensland. Read their name slowly.

If you want the real deal and are only doing track days, then why not get yourself official Laverda Corse two piece riding suit. 😜

Hopefully you won’t get Will the butcher.

Fucked the powder coat on my back wheel while changing the tyre, had it repainted, three weeks later the wheel was ready, complete with cream paint, instead of white!

Never walking through the door again.

A few years back Paul was working there and told me to give him a buzz and he'd sort me out. Unfortunately it took too long for me to get a bike to ride that would require leather to be worn and he's no longer there!

I'm having the opposite prob - too friggin small!

$1200AU, any size you like. Worth an email
