We have a bit of a Show and Shine happening on Sunday and being lazy and having a bit of a bad back I need to find an easy way to carve off the last 6 months of grimy crap on my bike from all the wet muddy riding we have done. This popped up in my feed and looked great, till I did some research on availability and cost in Sydney. Its starts at a REASONABLE $1500oz and goes up from there. If you see the plant required I guess that's why its megabucks Where is that garden hose?
 
I met such a specialist last year and I find it very impressive what's possible with this technology. Who wouldn't like it when their gem can be cleaned with a certain ease.

However, in the examples shown, I'm not sure if negative side effects possibly could happen. Watching the vid I tend to believe that parts of the jet spurt could get below a shaft seal or an X-ring of the chain and could later cause unwanted (initially unnoticed) damage.
 
Pretty harmless actually. I've seen several bikes and car underbodies that have been treated with dry ice, quite impressive.

But if you think you can get the bike spotless with just a once-over, your kidding yourself. It will not remove corrosion stains or thickly baked oil residues. Mud and similar wash away, just as with a bucket and sponge, you will be left with a reasonably clean bike that you can then start doing properly.

The process' real forte is removing old underbody protection from cars. The dry ice freezes the stuff to the point where it becomes brittle and the solid pellets erode the stuff away, leaving either bare or painted metal. It does not harm paints as long as they're still solid and not flaking. Hardly any mess to clean up afterwards, the dry ice evaporates, leaving only the removed crud to sweep up.

I heard about Dry Ice blasting awhile ago for cleaning engine parts. The stated advantage was residual dry ice just evaporates- no gritty particles left behind. I never heard about its effectiveness for cleaning oil and grease.
