Grinding Gears

I learned very early on not to have my 3c rev above idle when selecting 1st from neutral or you get horrible grinding noises. Is this typical? I saw a post elsewhere about clutchless shifts being fine on Laverdas, done it when I have broken a clutch cable to get somewhere to fit another but it's never been a thing on my Laverda. Dirtbikes get cluchless shifts all the time but I just don't like abusing the 3c. Does anyone do differently? Just curious.

N-1 let it warm up for 30 seconds first.
Otherwise, while moving, change gears whenever you see fit. Clutchless is fine as long as you unload the trans first.

If you blip the throttle before pulling the clutch in, the gears will spin up, making selection of first, at rest, a noisier affair.
It's kinda the opposite of "double-declutching" in a car, for those old enough to remember doing that.
Leave engine at tickover, pull clutch in and select first.
If it makes a noise you have clutch drag. Adjust cable.

Correct. Bit of pressure on the shifter and back off the power and out she pops.
