GT Rear rack.

Anyone have a clear pic of a rear rack on an early GT?
I am most interested in the delrin/nylon(?) strips in the 2 cross bars and also a folded view to see how they sit together.

two different part numbers. My photo is a brand new old stock genuine Laverda one but I'm not
certain which rack it is.

As fitted to my 1974 SF2, so frame is obviously different to your AE.

Anyone know the material used and purpose of those 2 strips. They don't seem to have any impact on protecting the folded sections from each other and daresay they would have little use in protecting luggage?!?

I have an identical rack to the one Mark posted, but with sligthly better condition strips.
IMHO they protect luggage to some extent from rubbing on the steel/chrome crossmembers.
I'd like to see a pic of the original (Denfeld?) tie down strap.

I had one of those type of racks on my 3C, from memory the white strips were rubber.

Just to finish why I wanted the above info:- Ordered some silicon rubber strip and fitted in the channels of the 2 cross members on my rack.
I also took a leather strap from a very worn vintage Postie pannier bag, cut it to size, even managed to pry out the original copper rivet and reuse. Seems to fit the aged look well
(And yes, my rack is a bit askew!! Obviously it had been twisted and repaired and was a pain to fit, but it is in very good nick....)

I've never figured out why the rear part of the rack folds up. I assume the Italians like to carry a magazine or newspaper when they go for a ride. Or maybe you could hold a pizza in the rack's "jaws".

I think it's just a styling exercise. Perhaps they figured that folded up takes it out of your eyeline over the rear guard (or something)
I also still don't understand the rubber strips. If you have something attached, surely it won't rub? Maybe more Italian style..........

Before I rechromed my rack I pried out the two rubber strips. They were just wedged in. When I put them back in I flipped them over as the old bottomside/new topside was cleaner than the old topside of the strips. Also the length of the strips was slightly different. which could have been a manufacturing boo-boo.
