Hanging throttle, rusty cables.

Hello list.
I just pulled the tank to try to figure out my hanging throttle issue on my 72 SF2. Meaning, the throttle won't fully close by itself after rolling it open. Kinda sucks when blip downshifting. :'(
From what I observed, the routing appears uninhibited. I have the 1-2 setup and I noticed the cable on the near side carb was a teeny bit rusty at the junction. I also noticed the rubber boots/caps that cover the top of the carb where the cable enters the cap were both torn. So I am going to replace those rubber bits, but is there a good reason to try to save these cables or just get an entire new set? Is what I describe enough to hang the throttle up?

Thanks!

Bob-Do you have a small amount of cable free play to ensure throttle closing? Is the binding in the carb(s) or cable? Have you lubed the cables? Rust at the junction is not a good sign, may be new cable time. How's the SF2 running? Did you adjust the valve lash?

Check that each carb slide moves easily and seats properly again.
I have seen crud/wear/misalignment also causing the symptoms you describe.
Could just be tbe cables but worth checking the whole system through.

Thanks again. Now a whole weekend of fiddling is ahead of me, which is not a bad thing.

IAG, I have not attended the inspection of the advance or the valves, which I will next time I get into the garage.
I still need to come over to your shop and say hi. Let me know when you guys aren't so busy.
