Headlight Insert to fit SF2

Can anyone point me in the direction of a H4 insert that fits a Bosch 7" headlight bucket.
All the ones I see are 178mm and they do not fit the chrome rim (too tight).
I am in Oz so I need the Right hand side cutaway.

Also does anyone know of alternatives for the chrome rim as these now seem unobtanium?

Not an easy one Bruce. 160mm they were and it was oddball even in 1974. I was at Stanco and they all were imported with rh drive cutout, but the rego people allowed us to put a bit of elect tape over the cutaway so that they didn't aim up at the rh side of the road. Did the first ever Duc Monster have that size? Probably had the 180 but I'm pretty sure there was one other bike with it and no doubt just as hard to replace. Put a generic headlight on it while you find the correct one. These days led headlights are starting to come in acceptable guises.
Are you doing up another SF?
 
I'm sure I have one from a BMW somewhere if you are talking about the smaller version of the lamp used on the triple. I don't think it has the correct dip for Australia though.
 
Thanks Guy's I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
Robberyman sent me a bucket, rim and a Japanese insert that fits so I was hoping that I could find another insert.
I will keep looking and see if I can find one with the RHS cutaway. Maybe there is something available for the Beemers!

Lee I am rebuilding the SF2 I rescued a couple of years ago #17435.
Red has done his magic on the engine and I have been repairing all the stuffed up components.
This is where it is at.

81 lav, the clipon pos on the bike in the ute must have been so much fun with that std chimp footpeg position!! Seriously, I just struggle to understand the logic sometimes ... the std Euro touring bars you've fitted are fantastic. Sure to be a wonderful bike.,

Yeah when I sat on the bike it felt like you were hanging on to the front axle.
The funny part is the Magura clip-ons are worth a fortune these days.

The bike had a genuine SFC fairing bracket that was hose clamped to the steering head, I should have got a photo.
I am with you, I struggle to understand how people think sometimes.

This is my second 750. I had an SF1 about 35 years ago.
I lent it to your brother Lee for a run to Coffs Harbour. He ran it in for me.
If I recall correctly a few things worked their way loose on that ride :D

G'day Bruce. If the headlight on the SF is the same as the 180mm (7") Bosch H4 unit on the triples, it shouldn't be too hard to find. They were fitted to many bikes back in the day. Laverda, BMW, Guzzi, Ducati, and probably a bunch of others.

Nice bit of history there - a perfect person to run your beast in, brother Lee!  :D . Don't sell your clipons. if you want an elegant use for them, get some long fork caps machined up and mount the clipons above the top clamp - excellent ergonomics and looks great - also dead easy getting them on or off. Have used mine on several incarnations and eventually machined them out to 41mm - they are strong units. I also like the original SF bars, so no biggie.

Unfortunately the SF2 Headlight is smaller than the one on the triples.
They are an odd size being slightly smaller (about 3 mm) than the standard automotive 7"insert (178mm).
I have managed to find a couple but the cutaway is on the wrong side.
I believe the same Bosch headlight was used on Ducati Pantah's and Monty's as well as BMW R45 & R65.

The Bosch bits for the triple headlight are still quite obtainable but not so the smaller unit.

That was a starting point a long way into the depths Bruce, you are doing it justice. Amazing how resurrectable these bikes are. Watch your back!, I might just kill for those clipons 😈
Yeah the Coffs trip was a cracker, still grateful I got to ride your SF1.
