The balancer shaft was taken out for racing.
It probably led to breakages. They break without it as well, but maybe a bit less.
It doesn't vibrate that much but no doubt part of Moto Laverda's plan to create bland motorcycles and compete with the dreaded market.
My wife has one of those early ones, a pair of bar end weights put an end to tingling in the bars.

I agree the balance shaft isn’t needed. And that’s one of the best looking ‘Spanish’ Laverdas I’ve seen in a long time Josep, most of them that turn up in the UK look like they have been left in a ditch for several years….
 
annoying bit caused by the addition of the balance shaft over the years is that there are actually 3 different shaped primary cover gaskets and none are interchangeable
what an issue that can lead to for an owner
 
And here is another one 350cc originally registered in Spain, just finished rebuild and now UK registered and ready to go. An early 78 with the balance shaft engine.
it had been in the uk since early 2012 resting......... and waiting or a saviour
Now just need to finish the 500 Alpino that came with it....
Anyone have a spare seat ?

Mine looked like that for a while, but I took great care of it.
