Hello: new Mirage owner

Shoulda just burnt it, way too much trouble to dig out, just to get rid of it.
Next time. I trashed a pair of boots and a shovel getting it out. I had to use a sledge hammer on the shovel to cut through the roots. The ground was so dry it was like concrete.

More than likely. You have engines, I have a set of 1200 crankcases, barrels and a refurbed head plus a refurbed 1000 short donor engine for the internals. Fingers crossed that the internals are the same.
Well that 1200 of mine has 1000 barrels on it so maybe I'm disqualified Scrumpy.

It will be a real bonus for Chris if as well as restoring the Mirage he needs to get rid of an invasive clump of bamboo.
As a matter of fact bamboo is a concern for me in the future: planting, not removing. You can't confuse the running and clumping varieties, otherwise you run into all sorts of grief...

A great natural resource when planted responsibly 😁

Found out the hard way - was told my black bamboo was clumping. Now it's an annual cull-fest of new sprouts and roots - the neighbours hate it. And so do I. Love the look, but ...

HI Chris

welcome!

the photos of your bike don't look any worse than some of my previous Laverda triple projects. All parts are available, plus lots of aftermarket upgrades, igntion, carbs, suspension, brakes, etc.

I am surprised Wolfgang Haerter has not been mentioned yet. One of the best Laverda parts suppliers on the planet, very nice guy, and ships worldwide with very reasonable prices.

I hope so. There’s a little bit to do yet…

Incidentally, I spoke to Keith at Laverda Scozia on the strength of recommendations here. Very helpful guy, gave me a clear picture of the realities of the project. Some good, some bad. I think I’ll be delivering my engine to him next year, given the state it’s in and substantial overhaul it will almost certainly require once the cases are cracked open.

Wrong seat….

A matter I need to attend to with mine down the line: I’ve seen various profiles fitted (flat, slight step up to pillion, humped type as above), and mine was too far gone to identify. Which is correct, and are they common to any other models to aid the search for a replacement?

Should be a std ‘letterbox’ seat though the cover should have a particular pattern: I think you can get them from Eldorado’s in Mt Barker, Adelaide (contact details in the Suppliers section)

I’ve been a Laverda owner two weeks, so forgive me… letterbox?

I’ll have to get a whole seat, even if it needs a cover. Mine was rotted to the point it was like a sprinkling of cornflakes on the rear mudguard.

A Letterbox seat is a std seat as when first fitted to the 3CLs back in ‘76 (?). Not sure where the name came from: possibly a throwaway line from a journo in a period test report…

hi all getting my 1200 motodd back out on the road again and wont to paint it mirage green but cant find the colour code for it i know its been asked before but can any one help
