Help with valuation

Hi I am wondering if any members could help with a valuation of a 120 Jota unfinished project.

The bike was bought in 1982 was found to be too tall and is known to some members.

It has had only 1 owner.

It had only done a genuine 2217 km ( 1,300 miles) when a new lower frame was made by Alastair Lauri Motorcycles in Scotland.

The bike was never finished so has been lying in the garage since 1983

It was going to be put back to standard with the original frame but a lack of time and motivation meant this hasn’t happened.

It is still on original tyres and disks. The tank, seat, side panels and tailpiece are as new.

The engine turns freely, this needs putting in the original frame.

New parts have been bought, brake pads, seals,

Any Ideas on a valuation as it would good for someone to take this on.

Lowered frame, seating position. More common in the chopper world. There was a mod done to my Husky that reduced the bolted-on seat subframe by 20 mm. A completely new frame seems pretty excessive to touch your feet down. Lowering suspension components is really common and way cheaper and easier, but you do lose suspension travel. So a whole new frame was made, including the 120-style rubber mounts. Wow.

Okay, how much is an RGS that's been dismantled for 46 years worth?
And in which country, this is an international forum, with or without customs duty?

I've sold 4 Laverda so far this year so I have a pretty good idea of what these bikes are worth. One went to Germany this morning.

As far as I'm concerned, that bike is worth a few hundred quid at the most, if you can find a buyer, but you'll no doubt find that negative.

The correct answer to how much is that bike worth is quite simple. There is no correct answer.

The Charterhouse auction, at the Haynes Museum, today, had an 28000 mile 1985 RGS1000 featured, and ready to ride, MOT'd and well maintained. Estimate was £5-6K. That was unsold . There were also many lots that sold for below average prices, i.e a Vincent Black Knight for £22.5K, a 1976 Triumph T160 Trident, that you'd expect to make £6-7K , sold for £4K. The market isn't good.
 
Fuck me a very low km 120 jota motor has to be worth at least a couple of grand. 500 bucks!!! Try buying 1 piston for that amount
Really dont understand the thinking of some of you guys.
If you have sold 4 this month Paul there must be a market.
 
Teddy, why bother splitting the cases on your 750, the gaskets you'll have to buy will be worth more than the bikes worth let alone pistons/rings and engineering. Total waste of money!!!
 
There's always a waste of money; just living is a waste of money. Shame I cannot eat money. If I counted up the money I spent on Motobikes, but what else would I do with it? Best not to think about it at all and go for a ride instead. My biggest life regrets were the times I didnt spend money on bikes and missed out on stuff.

There's always a waste of money; just living is a waste of money. Shame I cannot eat money. If I counted up the money I spent on Motobikes, but what else would I do with it? Best not to think about it at all and go for a ride instead. My biggest life regrets were the times I didnt spend money on bikes and missed out on stuff.

Don't be discouraged by prophets of doom, yes the classic bike market has bombed but there are still enthusiasts out there who'd take it on at a fair price for the fun of doing it.. I'd be interested and would have taken it on5141443536_5e72485eb7_b.jpg if I hadn't just bought a CBX 1000 and have a finished Mirage....I think you'd struggle at 5k but reckon you'd get north of £3000 possibly £3500 from someone who'd do all the restoration work himself...that is if you have an original frame to go with it.


I remember the stunning Alastair Laurie cafe racer T150 and T160 Trident engined specials in Bike magazine in the mid seventies...

I’m inclined to agree, cost of Laverda parts seems to go up as the bikes go down, fewer people capable of fixing them and less people actually lusting after them. Back in 1983 this would have been a desirable bike but now you would get more for a tatty FS1E- I saw a VF1000-R go for about three grand- this was once Hondas limited edition flagship road legal endurance racer…but if no one wants to buy it ..
