Hit it with a hammer!

Seriously worried here, I rebuilt my 500, new cams, rebuilt and ground to S1 spec, new cam chain, and tensioner, rebored cylinders to 522cc, high compression JE pistons fitted, measured the piston ring gap and filed to perfection, new valve seals, replaced faulty cam followers, , Saches ignition fitted, lapped in the valves as best I could, dodgy cam blocks timeserted, new cam bearings, new coils, replaced all jets and needles in carbs, set up valve clearences to perfection, etc etc, to much to list, I'm on my 4th strip down now, evey time I retouque the head I'm waiting for the monkey metal to give out.
After asking a question about the tensioner blade fitment, and as it turned out I got some good advice, I find that the prescribed solution is to put it in a vice and hit it with a hammer to a suitable undisclosed amount.
Jez! Clearly I'm a Ducati owner and shouldn't have strayed.

put it in the vice with the bare end clamped and then just exert pressure to bend it into the desired shape by hand
do not hit it with a hammer

Am I correct in thinking that tensioner blade fitment posed no problem during the first three ( 😲 ) strip downs ... ... , and the problem only arose during the fourth ......... ? .......... If I`m faced with a problem like that , I sit down , have a think , and maybe , just maybe , I will remember how I overcame the problem in the first place ..... :) ........

Yep, a quiet beer and a moment to ponder works wonders.

No, the problem was there all along, hence the wear on the steel at the bottom or the blade.
At each of the other dismantles I had other more severe issues to resolve, it was only after the last reassembly that the engine had finally run correctly and long enough to mark the blade.
That's when I had a ponder, decided something was wrong, hence the question.
Maybe I should have picked it up sooner, but the workshop manual makes so mention of it, or any other source, so you learn as you go along.
