?hlins Shocks for Triple

I dont much about modern motorcycle suspension, for me the old Cerianis set on the hardest setting did the trick and recently I have ridden triples with Koni and Hagon and thought they were ok too.
Getting to the point though there was a stand at Stafford selling YSS shocks and they quoted me ?135 for the basic model. Is this good, bad or the wrong shock? Seemed a good price to me.

Steve,

Here's a few pics which might interest you. One of the things that has always given me a warm glow when I've collected my parts from Maxton is the way all the completed orders are carefully stored together, each with their own brown paper tag with the customer's name on it. I remember seeing my forks lined up amongst others bearing labels with names such as Farquhar,Rutter and Jeffries written on them. It certainly gives the customer a bit of confidence when you see who they make stuff for. I buy Maxton purely for their functionality but, as a famous architect once said, form ever follows function. Refined and understated.
I reckon Maxton suspension is worth at least 10bhp on the track. It's the cheapest, most reliable tuning you can spend your money on and just as valid on a road bike as it is on a racer.

Twinshocks lined up for final assembly. Note the piggy backs on the right hand side of the bench. Beautiful engineering.

Nice tidy woprkshop, drawing office on the left. Ron Williams is usually to be found in there

Looks a bit more confidence inspiring than a bunch of gooks slaving away in a sweatshop right enough.  :P

       Keith

That's not a very nice thing to say about Hagon Keith.....

Nowt wrong with sweatshops Keith, why when I were a lad.........actually we did fuck all at work if we could get away with it (and we could) and now we're surprised at being eaten alive by the sweatshop brigade.
Only a little tongue in cheek that comment by the way.
There is another side to it ....when my mate was working in Germany in the 70's and 80's I asked him about the superhuman German worker. He said well the biggest difference he had noticed was that they had decent modern equipment to work with, not that they worked harder.
The Germans had and still have that end of it cracked.

I'm just now fitting these Race Tech units to my 83 RGS. Should know how they feel once I sort out my switch to F1 cams and actually have the bike running. They were built up by Matt Wiley at Race Tech. I'm also installing a set of their GS3 shocks w/adjustable damping. They're beautiful, and very much handmade.

Well, after reading through this lot I ordered a set of T260-C Twinshocks from Maxton. Very pleasant to deal with and the cost delivered to Perth was over AUD $150 cheaper than the YSS. Always happy to support a small business compared to an Asian bulk producing sweat shop. And I would reckon the product is much better given the quality of riders listed as using their gear. If they are good enough for Ryan Farquhar they will be more than good enough for me.

UK Pound 465 + AUD  $738 at todays exchange rate. Bit of a no brainer really. Just placed my order last night so I assume they will take a while.

Good looking shock which I was pretty keen on for the TS Mirage, except that I did not have the measurements required as the bike was overseas.  I rang them to see if they had these measurements on file from a previous order, but they said they could not do that, so I went back to the YSS.

I'm sure someone from this board could have provided the required info.

Maxton shocks arrived today. Well made looking gear, look lovely. Just need to start putting the bike back together now, especially as my engine arrived as well.
