Before sending my carbon bodywork off to be painted I need to fill four fairing mount holes. Mainly because the mount I made is going, as I have a replacement SFC type mount which leaves the existing 6mm holes in the wrong spot.

Begs the question, what is best approach to do this? Filling them with body filler doesn’t seem kosher.
 
If your painting it doesn't mater what you fill it with, if you want to keep the carbon look fill with epoxy resin. you'll still see the filled holes but the colour should blend in.
 
After personally repairing damaged carbon with epoxy, my vote is to use that since it,s stronger than body filler that can chip or break and the epoxy will adhere better to the carbon.. Buy some carbon mesh and glue it to the carbon underside and build it up by layers to match the outer contour, carefully block sanding w wet fine grit paper each coated layer. The trick is feathering the epoxy fill to blend w the carbon so gradually build up the epoxy as its sanded smooth.

I’d put some tape on the outside, then fill the hole with resin from the inside. That should leave the resin slightly low. I’d also mix the resin and wait till it starts to go off before pouring it in, if it’s slightly thicker then it doesn’t run everywhere. Timing has to be perfect though 👍
When dry, remove the tape and put a little skim of filler for easy sanding.
I say all this as a fully qualified carbon expert amateur busybody who specialises in standing and pointing 😉
 
Excellent tip Andy. You can buy a small tube of 2 part epoxy, mix it well and let cure for 24 hrs. before sanding each coat w/ 600 to 1500 grit for a perfect repair.

And don’t forget to wear full PPE including breathing apparatus when you do the work, particularly the sanding to avoid any future horrible lung disease….
