Horns

I am on my second set of horns, the first set dieded a long time ago. The second set also just died for the second time. This set was derivoted and brought back from the dead a few years ago. I would orientate these horns so the wiring was well away from the exhaust, big mistake according to the local rivet counter. It seems I have missed seeing the 2 tiny drain holes in there grill, I should have orientated one of these as low as possible to drain any water out instead of worrying about the wiring. So hopefully these horns come back from the dead or its another $150 with shipping for another 2. Hope I don't need to derivot them if it comes to it. Check your drain holes.

So, you're admitting there is value to being a rivet counter????  :-*

Just to define this particular  rivet counter, he has ordered replacement rivets for his deriveted horns. I just do the nut and bolt thing. I am far from being worthy of this much rivet counter excess.

Hey Vince, I picked up a horn for the Motodd from the wreckers for 10 bucks, but then again the motodd doesn't have any rivets left to be counted!
Your bike is far from original so OEM doesn't really matter does it?

Mine is tucked away next to the breather so not seen. The only reason I have a horn is legality, can't ever remember ever using one in haste in all the years riding. Usually too busy avoiding whatever it is that I need to sound the horn for and by then it's too late so pointless beeping the horn. :D

$150 for a set of Voxbell's  :o
damn, change your supplier, have them in stock for less than $100 + GST

will not last anyway, new ones don't seem to be as well made as the originals

Rivet counter, didnt know that Tom was there last night damn must have missed him. Did he turn up after I left then ?????????

Kettle meet Mr Pot, spent an hour with the wet and dry on the points of one of the horns, waste of time. Ordered a couple from Red. Maybe orientating the drain holes might make them last a while. Next cab off the rank is the sticking horn button, added to a philips head screw that will not come out of the switch block. Its getting drilled out if the switch doesn't start springing back soon.

The Ambassador has not  beeped her horn with the same vigour as the original, but to take myself to that place where i must drill the rivets.............a bridge too far?

Peter

Go for it PC. Drill those rivets out. If the horn is already rooted, what have you got to lose?

Vince, you may need to adjust the point gap to get the horn working. Tune for maximum noise.

Thanks Cam and Brett, I now have 2 working horns, well they work a bit to well. The button is sticking, one problem down another dozen to go, one of the switch block screws has seized.

Give the sucker a good soak with WD40 or similar..
I got some new ones if you need, screws that is, so dont worry about damaging it to remove it.

So I drilled the head of the seized philips head in my switch block, pulled it to bits, stretched the horn spring,
cleaned the gundge away from the left blinker switch, it always took 2 goes to work, and the best bit, manged to reassemble the lot with no missing bits or parts left over.
Brought a new cap head to replace the drilled screw and its all working like it should. That's got to be a first for me.We not really, used to replace switches in my Husky switch block from crash damage all the time.
