How very strange?

So on Wednesday I decided to try and get the Jota m.o.t'd (annual check) it was due in May but had been extended till November, Wednesday was dry here so a good time to go.
Quick check over first revealed no brake lights....eh!......(scratch) Checking the front one, it must have been a loose connection as wires off, clean and refit and working perfectly.....so off to the rear.
This one not so simple.....Wires off clean the connectors and back on revealed it still didn't work....so either wiring or switch?........looping the connector wires confirmed the brake light comes on so assume wiring is all good........so check the switch.

Continuity with a meter revealed the switch was working and even a voltage check revealed voltage was passing through it however the strange thing was it wouldn't light a bulb? even when showing the same 12.2V.....so obviously failing or unable to carry a load....same check carried out on the front switch illuminated the bulb......how very strange. (scratch)

Quick e-mail to Ducati Paddy for a new switch which is now fitted and all is working as it should do. (bigthumb) many thanks Paddy, excellent service as always.

Now to wait for another dry day and we try again.....and they were definitely both working okay in May  :D
 
My Jota rear brake light has recently become unreliable - wondering when you swapped over the switch was there any way you managed to avoid the (in my experience) tedious effort to bleed the rear brake system - I assume not.

Oh don't worry i have been there before with the brake bleeding issue, but this time it was a doddle to do.
I was expecting a lot of fluid loss when I removed the old switch but again it was a fairly simple operation, and luckily I was able to remove the switch without having to disconnect the brake hose from the caliper.
Access to the switch is very poor with the master cylinder in place.

Nick, try the trick I use on bicycle hydros (I cut and shorten actual hoses this way) - take the caliper off the rotor, pump the pads out so they almost meet (without popping all the way out!!) then remove your brake light switch, fit the new one, leave it a little loose to allow air and fluid to pass, then use a wedge to push the pads/pistons back into the caliper. Any air that may have entered will be expelled once you see fluid start to exit. Positioning it somewhere to avoid mess is a good idea.
