Ignitech black boxes

They do at any rate store the info that is programmed in. They are totally dependant on the external battery to do anything at all so it doesn?t seem like they have an internal one.

They have a flash memory like you find Ina USB stick. That's how they store the programming and why you need drivers to get the PC to talk to the unit.

Reminds me I still have your unit Bear!!!!

So, that being the case, why if you set it to 'Custom' would/could it revert to another setting ... say '180 1000' ? This only seems to happen when the ignition is off for say 1 hour.

Sorry for the obvious question but did you READ the box and then PROGRAM it with your new settings?

Best to read and then save the existing map before you start playing around.

I should rephrase that, when unplugged from laptop and not powered, ie no ignition on, would/ could setting change when restarted an hour or so later?

no

The Ignitech box is smarter than most of us (collectively  :D).  it has a powerful process chip.  I reckon what you will find.......

You can change the parameters to anything (within reason) you want whilst powered up, but if the box does not 'think' the settings you have chosen are safe ,or more importantly, completed! it will revert back to default or a safe settings for the next start up.

Sort of a diagnostic that it would do on power up, if parameters are not set with certain defined parameters, it will revert back to a safe mode/setting...

But I know shit fuck nothing...only a stab in the dark based on my experience.

So if it thinks some idiot has rephased the idnition by 90 degrees whilst it was asleep it will revert to the default 180 mode? Interesting.....

I should have been more specific,  when in Custom/Special mode.

Mine is in custom/special for my 270deg motor in the racebike and it has always stayed set up as I have left it. Sits without battery for the entire off season. It sounds like a fault in yours Chris, especially as Red checked over the programming.
