Ignition coils

I am looking to fit new coils to my SF1 along with DMC 32 electronic ignition and was looking at either Dyna or Nology coils, while reading about the ones from Nology I came across an article on the internet (so it must be true) that they are made by PVL in Germany.

The ones from PVL are about half the price, can anyone confirm that they are both the same and does anyone on here use them.

written on the side of the Nology coils is "Made in Germany" so believe you are correct

I use the Nology coils quite a lot on our ignition systems, was actually building ignition systems most of yesterday as had 5 systems to make
from top down, triple system for a BTZ bike, next two are for the Twisted Twins we just finished building, 4th system is for a standard 750 running 2 x single pole coils and last system is for a 750 running 1 x dual coil

I've had PVL coils in my RGS for a couple of years now, no issues whatsoever... but, and that's a big but, they are low resistance units working with a specially developed DMC32, an experiment so to speak.  0.6 Ohm primary resistance instead of the normally  3 Ohms required for DMC units.  No more fouled plugs, instant starting after months of standstill.  They are proper flamethrowers!

The Dyna Mini and Nology coils look very similar to another, the PVL have different HT connections.  #356 104 seems to be the only coil from PVL that fits the bill for the DMC, but it is a dual coil.  My GTL uses a single dual-type ND coil driven off a single channel of an older DMC II system, has been dead reliable since 1994.

I also run a PVL magneto ignition system in the works 750SFC engine, quite surprised nobody else has tried that.

Heard good reports on this from the 750 owner, Wassell-Vape ,and good value.Just the ignition of course .Nowt wrong with 750 Bosch coils.

That's interesting. When you google Nology Engineering Inc. it says the company is based in California USA, so I assumed the coils came from America.  But there's also a NOLOGY-Zuendsystem in Germany, so it seems the coil manufacturing is done in Germany. I wonder what the USA factory does. Perhaps it's just the USA marketing base (a lot of their marketing is aimed at Harley owners).

Looking at their website, they also make interesting plug leads with a capacitor built into the lead, and a big braided earth strap. Their blurb says that a capacitor in the HV side of the coil close to the spark plug makes "the most powerful spark possible".  One of their claims is that the ignition advance should be reduced because of improved combustion. Just wondering if anyone has tried capacitor plug leads, and if so, does it make any difference.

All the rage with the H-D crowd a few years back, I must have fitted 100's of them.  Try as I might, I never noticed a difference to the stock stuff... ::)
