ignition cut out relay

Assume you still have the original CDI black box ignition and we're talking your 1200 here?  Difficult to explain without knowing what wiring colours you're referring to as being different.  Do you have a wiring diagram to refer to? .... you'll see the principle of operation is that the relay effectively interrupts the feed to the black box from the alternator.  It hooks into the chock strip terminals at the top rear of the fuel tank

The early CDI (HKZ) versions used the relay to ground the ignition for cut-out.  The later BTZ system uses the relay to interrupt current to the ignition.

I have found the green book wiring diagrams are a bit hard to pin down exactly what wiring diagram relates to what year bike. And to top that they used different colors between years for the same thing.

Your Keyed Ignition switch it probably the culprit after years after bouncing off that triple tree - Replace it with a Solid Toggle Switch.

Ron, he is asking how to wire in an ignition cut out relay on a triple, not stating that his ignition is realy cutting out. Amazing what a misplaced letter can do.
