Ignition cut out

After seeing my triple falling over and catch fire, it appeared that an ignition cut out switch that comes into operation when the bike is on its side might be a good addition to our Laverda. They seem to be fitted to modern machines with injection.
Those petrol caps not only leak with a full tank when you brake, but when the bike falls on its side, the engine still running for a few seconds.

Used a tiny mercury switch on the pcb for the original iis to cut the motor when triggered after x seconds. Decided to delete that feature as bouncing around in corners could also cause a cutout, can be done though not as straight forward as it may first seem, given single track vehicles can go well over vertical. That's something new to me as I have never owned a Fuel Injected bike, there was a little tip-over on a grassy downhill 25kph bend on a recent ride and when the bike was lifted vertically it wouldn't start. I was thinking flooded but was told it is a modern fuel-injected bike it needed to reset its tip-over switch. Apparently, not a Mercury switch, but works the same. I have an Aircraft Style non-leakable tank cap and it needed a separate breather that has an inbuilt steel bearing style tip-over valve that blocks fuel leaking out.

Ain’t gunna help if the donk is hot.
What is the spontaneous ignition point of petrol vapours? Are you sure that it doesn't need a spark?

I just checked, ignition temperature of petrol is 280°C I'm not sure that the castings of our engines reach that temperature.
It'll auto ignite under pressure in a combustion chamber, but on the alloy of a cylinder block?

A mechanic mate had a party trick I wouldn't advise copying, he would put cigarettes out on a bowl of petrol stating as long as there were no vapours it was fine. His form of Russia Rulet.

A friend had been advertising his rather old and beaten up Fiat for several weeks without a sale. Filled up on way home from work, fella phoned and came round that night agreed to buy the car after haggling the price down, paid a deposit and was returning the next day with the balance. My friend started siphoning the petrol which was taking ages. Decided to speed up with a 240v pump. Car exploded, must have been a spark.

And a leak. Only petrol vapours explode, or rather burn fast as in our combustion chambers.

Be plenty of sparks with a lump of metal sliding down the rd……. Or some static off your woolen/nylon/bamboo underderware!

I would imagine header temps would be more than hot enuff also.

Possible, I doubt that my underwear would spark a fire out in the open air.
A leak proof petrol cap would be the first place to start.

or you could plumb in a sprinkler system with ten nozzles around the perifery of the bike fed by a pressurised water container on the carrier, the sprinkler heads go off on temperature rise of an alcohol in the bulb, very sensitive, and no electrics to add, dont park near a Bar B Que, the added bonus is that the pipework would form an outer crash bar to hold everything up from the ground. I recomend screwed and welded steel pipework, I can do this for you in exchange for parts that you are waiting for me to collect.

just fix it and ride, its a one in a million, and was accidental, unlike your previous inferno which was deliberate, statistics are that it wont happen again to you for 312 years, but you can never can tell, you have too mnay bikes to contemplate this mod, because if you dont do one of them, that is the one that will crash and burn.

hows the body damage? yours not the bike.

Body is repairing slowly, thanks Clem.
I've been hobbling about for a few day but the foot is still too swollen to put a shoe on it, even less a motorcycle boot.
The thumb is still refusing to bend.
